First Nations Furnace Replacement Rebate
Rebates of CAD 2,000 or CAD 3,000 help on-reserve households in Saskatchewan replace working, inefficient furnaces with new high-efficiency natural-gas models.
Tato příležitost je nyní dostupná v angličtině.
The rebate partly offsets the purchase price of a replacement furnace and aims to reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) is the furnace efficiency rating used by the programme: a new natural-gas furnace rated 95.0%–96.9% receives CAD 2,000, while one rated at least 97.0% receives CAD 3,000.
Funding is limited. SaskEnergy may prioritize applications, limit rebate numbers or amounts, or change or end the programme. You remain responsible for operation, maintenance, repairs and costs, including repairs or safety upgrades beyond the programme’s contribution.
Eligibility
- You must be a homeowner of an on-reserve home in Saskatchewan, or a housing manager or administrator working on behalf of the First Nation Band. The current intake covers gasified communities, meaning communities served by natural gas.
- The home must have its own working furnace rated below 90% AFUE as part of its primary space-heating system. Row houses and duplex units qualify when each has a separate dedicated meter. Only one furnace rebate is available per home.
- New construction, garages (including attached garages), and units covered by a manufacturer’s warranty or an insurance claim are excluded.
- The replacement must be a new natural-gas furnace in one of the qualifying efficiency bands. Used or rebuilt units do not qualify. Installation must follow manufacturer specifications and applicable rules, using a gas contractor with a valid Domestic, General or Employer licence from the Technical Safety Authority of Saskatchewan (TSASK). The contractor must dispose of or recycle the old furnace.
- SaskEnergy must confirm your eligibility in writing before you participate, and the furnace must be installed after pre-approval. You cannot also receive the Residential Equipment Replacement Rebate for the same equipment. If you have already received that rebate and qualify for this programme, you can receive a top-up to your eligible First Nations rebate amount.
You must provide safe property access for contractors and SaskEnergy, including checks of eligibility and home readiness. SaskEnergy may inspect the old and new furnaces before, during or after the work, with notice. You agree to utility-bill monitoring and consent to account and bill data retrieval for five years before and five years after participation; energy reporting is aggregated or anonymized. Application information must remain complete and accurate, and you must report material changes. Failure to meet the terms can void the application and release SaskEnergy from its programme obligations.

- Written pre-approval is required before installation. Final applications and required paperwork must be received within six months of installation.[^c3][^c7]
Contact SaskEnergy Customer Solutions using the contact details on the programme page to request an Application for Pre-Approval. Its postal address is 500–1777 Victoria Avenue, Regina, SK S4P 4K5. Provide the main contact’s email address and phone number.
Submit the pre-approval form with the addresses of the homes, acknowledgement by the homeowner or First Nation Band housing administrator, and the make, model, age, efficiency and fuel source of each existing furnace. Wait for written pre-approval before arranging installation with your chosen licensed gas contractor.
After installation, send the final application and required paperwork within six months of installation; SaskEnergy cannot process them after that deadline. The sales invoice must identify the contractor and address, applicant, installation address, furnace make, model and serial number, and installation date. If approved, SaskEnergy mails the rebate cheque to the applicant.
