Energy Aid
Business Finland grants support energy-efficiency investments, new renewable-energy technology and energy audits for projects carried out in Finland.

Energy Aid covers investments that save energy or improve the efficiency of energy production or use. It also supports renewable-energy production when the project uses new technology. Conventional renewable-energy installations such as standard solar systems are not funded. Biogas plants can use conventional technology, but every biogas project needs a plan for processing and using digestate. Refining, liquefaction, transmission, distribution or use of biogas is funded only alongside investment in new reactor capacity. Expanding an existing plant requires a new biogas reactor that increases both reactor capacity and biogas production capacity. Refuelling stations are not funded.
For investments, eligible project costs must be at least EUR 10,000 for energy efficiency or EUR 30,000 for other energy projects, and no more than EUR 5 million. Renewable-energy projects typically receive 15–30%. New-technology projects can receive up to 40% for an SME or 30% for a large company. Energy-efficiency rates are 15–25% depending on participation in an energy-efficiency agreement and use of an eligible energy service company. Qualifying energy audits can receive 40–50%.
Eligibility
- Companies and other organizations can apply for projects in Finland. The audit routes include specified options for municipalities, joint municipal authorities, foundations and parishes, with conditions based on annual energy use and participation in an energy-efficiency agreement.
- The project must be voluntary and must not merely fulfil a legal environmental duty or a mandatory energy-audit requirement. The applicant must have enough financing to pay the full project cost before the grant is reimbursed.
- Housing companies, residential and care properties, fishing and aquaculture businesses, predominantly state-budget-funded organizations and ordinary new-construction projects are excluded. Farm-related projects are generally excluded, with a narrow exception where the energy is used outside agricultural production and the applicant is not the farm.
- Do not start the project or place an unconditional binding order before Business Finland has made its funding decision.
