Energy-efficiency rebates
Medina Electric Cooperative members can receive electricity bill credits for efficient appliances, heating and cooling equipment, and tune-ups at occupied homes or small commercial businesses.

The rebate reduces your electricity bill through a credit to your member account. Allow eight weeks after Medina Electric Cooperative receives all rebate documents for the credit to appear.
Available rebates are:
- $10 for a water-heater blanket costing more than $20 before tax.
- $25 for an electronic programmable thermostat costing more than $40 before tax.
- $50 for an ENERGY STAR refrigerator larger than 10 cubic feet.
- $35 each for an ENERGY STAR freezer larger than 10 cubic feet, dishwasher, clothes washer or window air-conditioning unit.
- $60 for a heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) tune-up by a qualified licensed service professional. The service must include checking and correcting refrigerant pressure and tubing; checking and adjusting belt tension; cleaning and lubricating the indoor blower; replacing filters; cleaning inside the A-shaped coil; and checking the thermostat, wiring and other electrical parts.
- $400 for replacing a heat pump, or $200 for replacing central air conditioning, subject to the system requirements below.
Eligibility
- You must be a member of Medina Electric Cooperative. Rebates cover occupied residences and small commercial businesses only.
- You can receive one of each type of rebate per member per year.
- Replacement heating and cooling systems must be installed by a qualified licensed service professional. Both the outdoor condensing unit and indoor air-handler must be replaced with a new matching system certified by AHRI.
- Both replacement heat pumps and central air-conditioning systems need efficiency ratings of at least 18 SEER and 12.0 EER. A replacement heat pump must also have an HSPF rating of at least 9.3. Use the required AHRI certification sheet to check that the new matching system meets these cooling-efficiency ratings and, for a heat pump, the heating-efficiency rating.
- Medina Electric Cooperative may verify your claim and may refuse the rebate if it cannot verify the information supplied. It may change the programme without notice.

- Submit within 30 days of purchase or service. One of each rebate type per member per year.
Submit the online rebate application on Medina Electric Cooperative’s rebates page within 30 days of purchase or service. Enter the name on your electricity account, account number, contact details and account address, and select the rebate you are claiming.
Attach a receipt or contractor invoice. For the listed ENERGY STAR appliances, also include the ENERGY STAR Energy Guide. For an HVAC tune-up, supply the service date and contractor’s name and phone number. For a replacement heat pump or central air-conditioning system, attach the contractor’s original invoice showing the model and serial numbers of all installed equipment, together with the AHRI sheet.
