Energy-efficiency rebates
Member rebates for efficient heat pumps, insulation, weatherization and home EV chargers at properties served by Prairie Energy Cooperative in north central Iowa.
Tato příležitost je nyní dostupná v angličtině.
Prairie Energy Cooperative helps members buy energy-saving equipment and improve existing homes. Rebates of $50 or less are credited to your electricity account; larger rebates are paid by check.
- Geothermal heat pumps: $1,000 per ton of cooling capacity, plus $50 per unit if fitted with a desuperheater, a device that heats household water. The $50 bonus is listed for the $1,000-per-ton route. Replacing an existing geothermal unit receives $500 per ton instead, and the old unit must be at least ten years old. Systems above 20 tons per structure require prior approval.
- Air-source heat pumps, including mini-split and hotel-type ductless units: $500 per ton. An air-source add-on with gas backup and a load-control agreement receives $650 per ton. The agreement lets the cooperative interrupt the heat pump's electricity supply; it carries the obligations below.
- Insulation: 40% of materials costs, up to $600 per structure per year, for homes with metered electric heat; 20%, up to $300, for homes with non-electric heat and central air conditioning.
- Weatherization and duct insulation: 40% of materials costs, up to $200 per structure per year, with metered electric heat; 20%, up to $100, with non-electric heat and central air conditioning. Weatherization includes weatherstripping, sealing and window wrap.
- Level 2 EV chargers: 50% of the charger price, up to $500 per charger, with a maximum of three chargers per household. You must agree to let the cooperative control the charger's electricity use through its load-management programme.
Eligibility
You must be a Prairie Energy Cooperative member, and the equipment or improvements must be installed at your location served by the cooperative. This entry covers residential heat pumps, insulation, weatherization and household EV chargers. The cooperative may inspect the installation before paying and may change incentive levels or end the programme without notice.
- Geothermal equipment must be ENERGY STAR rated or meet both a minimum EER of 14.0 and COP of 3.3. These are the equipment's energy-efficiency ratings. Air-source equipment must have a seasonal cooling-efficiency rating of SEER 15 or higher, or SEER2 14.3 or higher. The cooperative uses cooling capacity and efficiency listed in the AHRI equipment directory to determine the rebate.
- Air-source and ductless heat pumps are limited to two units per single-family dwelling or outbuilding, or one rebate per family in a multi-family dwelling.
- Insulation and weatherization are for existing homes, including qualifying residential outbuildings, rather than new construction. Only materials qualify, with a minimum $25 purchase; labour does not qualify. You or a professional may install them. Homes with non-electric heat and no central air conditioning receive no insulation or weatherization incentive. Annual limits apply per structure across upgrades.
- Insulation must bring ceilings to R38, walls to R19 or foundations to R10. These R-values measure insulation levels; check the resulting level for the part of the building you improve. Radiant barriers are excluded. Ducts must be in spaces that are not heated or cooled.
- EV chargers must be 240-volt units hardwired according to local codes. Installation is subject to verification. Supply the charger make, model, serial number, specifications and receipt, plus the vehicle make, model, VIN and licence number.
For the $650-per-ton air-source add-on, you must provide automatic gas backup, pay for the heat-pump equipment and buy its electricity from the cooperative. You must allow access for inspection and control installation, allow the cooperative to install, operate, maintain and replace the controls at its expense, and accept electricity interruptions at specified times. The agreement lasts for the heat pump's useful life, including a sale of the property. The cooperative and its power supplier accept no liability for losses, costs or damage caused by purchase, installation or use of the equipment, or the agreed electricity interruptions.
You may cancel that heat-pump agreement with at least 30 days' written notice. The cooperative may cancel if you fail to install or maintain the heat pump, or tamper with or modify the controls. If either party cancels, you must repay the discounted value of the load-control incentive. If controls have been installed, you must also allow their removal and pay the cooperative's installation and removal costs. These heat-pump contract terms apply to this conditional incentive; the charger form separately requires acceptance of its load-management programme as it may be amended.
