Workplace EV charger rebate

BC Hydro, FortisBCBritish Columbiaop til 14 t CAD

Rebates help eligible British Columbia employers install permanent electric-vehicle chargers in employee parking at existing workplaces.

Denne finansieringsmulighed er i øjeblikket beskrevet på engelsk.

The rebate reimburses the purchase and installation of Level 2 electric-vehicle chargers at workplaces in British Columbia. Level 2 chargers use a 208- or 240-volt supply. Charging must be reserved for employees during their working hours.

The standard rebate covers up to 50% of eligible costs, capped at CAD 2,000 per charger and CAD 14,000 per workplace. Eligible Indigenous governments, organizations and businesses can receive up to 75%, capped at CAD 4,000 per charger and CAD 14,000 per workplace. A single-port station counts as one charger and a dual-port station counts as two; the standard dual-port limit is CAD 4,000 or 50% of its total costs, whichever is lower. Across all worksites, an organization can receive pre-approval for up to CAD 56,000 per fiscal year, April 1 to March 31, based on the application date.

Eligible costs include chargers, installation labour and conduit, permits, parking and electrical design, EV parking signs, related capital equipment, project legal services, environmental assessments and power-management devices. You must bear the costs yourself. Taxes, land, non-EV infrastructure, parking-area painting, administration, dispute-resolution legal fees and charging infrastructure already required by regulation, building codes or other programmes are excluded.

You cannot combine this rebate with another rebate programme that receives provincial funding. Other local or federal government, provincial Crown corporation or private-sector rebates may be combined, but total rebates cannot exceed your eligible project costs. Excess funding must be repaid; receiving a separate provincially funded programme rebate requires repayment of this programme's entire rebate.

Eligibility

  • An authorized representative must apply for a company or legal entity registered or incorporated in British Columbia. You must own or lease a workplace there, with at least five employees who primarily work on the premises. The building must have been constructed before August 31, 2022; this is a retrofit offer.
  • Eligible workplaces include businesses, non-profits, industry and research associations, health authorities, school districts, colleges, universities, local and regional governments, and eligible Indigenous governments and organizations. Provincial government ministries, Crown corporations and home-based businesses are excluded.
  • Indigenous applicants include First Nations Band Councils, Modern Treaty and Self-Governing First Nations, Tribal Councils, organizations mandated under traditional governance structures, Métis government offices, chartered communities or associations, friendship centres, economic development corporations and First Nations representative organizations. Indigenous businesses must be at least 51% Indigenous owned and controlled; the application also checks whether Indigenous-led organizations are at least 51% Indigenous led with a primary mandate to serve Indigenous peoples.
  • Chargers must be new, purchased from a Canadian supplier, approved for Canadian sale and use with cETL, cQPS, CSA, cUL or ULC certification, and use an SAE J1772 or SAE J3400 connector. Tesla-manufactured chargers are excluded. Installation must be permanent, for a new installation or expansion; replacing existing chargers is excluded. You must show ownership of or access to the installation land.
  • Chargers must connect to a network directly or through an energy-management system, allowing remote messages or commands through a central network accessible to building management. Keep them networked for at least two years. A licensed electrical contractor with a GST number and valid BC business licence must install them in compliance with local codes and bylaws.
  • From purchase until at least two years after the latest rebate payment, retain ownership and control of the chargers and infrastructure, free of liens and other claims. Do not sell, lease or dispose of them or enter a charging-as-a-service arrangement with a charging provider. Breaching these conditions requires repayment of all programme rebates.

Løbende ansøgning
Vilkår for ansøgningsrunden
  • Complete the project and final claim within six months of pre-approval; request any extension before the deadline.

Apply for pre-approval before ordering or purchasing chargers, incurring project costs or starting work. Funding is first come, first served while funds last.

BC Hydro and City of New Westminster electricity customers apply through BC Hydro's workplace pre-approval application. FortisBC, City of Penticton, City of Grand Forks, Nelson Hydro and District of Summerland electricity customers apply through FortisBC at fortisbc.com/ev. The applicant must apply and receive the rebate; a contractor cannot apply or receive payment on the applicant's behalf.

Provide a quote for the chargers, installation and any electrical-service upgrades. If you lease the workplace, provide the owner's written consent. Indigenous applicants must provide the verification documents requested by the application.

Wait for the pre-approval email before proceeding. Complete all project work and submit the final application within six months of that email. An extension may be considered if you request it before the deadline.

Submit paid itemized charger and installation invoices, a photograph of each station, a screenshot showing network connectivity, and the completed contractor installation form including permit numbers. Payment depends on completed work and compliance with all programme requirements.

Cooperate with verification and provide reasonable site access during the application process and for one year after payment. Report changed information immediately, respond to information requests within 30 days, and retain supporting documents for at least one year after receiving the rebate. Changes or noncompliance can lead to rejection, recalculation or repayment. Utility account holders must provide, or authorize the manufacturer to provide, charger-use and power data for up to 60 months before and after participation.
