Lightrock’s Climate Impact strategy provides private-equity investment for technology-enabled businesses working towards a net-zero economy. Equity means capital in return for an ownership stake. Its main focus is growth-stage companies: businesses scaling proven solutions with commercial viability, rather than only developing an initial concept.
The Lightrock Climate Impact Fund’s October 2022 announcement gives a typical initial investment range of €10–40 million. This describes the fund’s usual starting investment in a company.
The five investment themes are energy transition; industrial decarbonisation; sustainable food and agriculture; sustainable transport; and technologies that enable climate action. Examples include energy storage and efficiency, sustainable materials and recycling, greener agricultural inputs and alternative proteins, electric vehicles and lower-emission aviation, and emissions tracking.
Alongside investment, Lightrock describes strategic and impact advice, support for functional capabilities and governance, and introductions that can help with partnerships and fundraising.
Eligibility
The strategy focuses on European and North American companies with proven solutions and the ability to grow commercially while delivering climate impact. Lightrock’s teams must establish both an investment case and an impact case before investing.
The fund announcement also permits a modest allocation to early-stage companies. Those companies must show clear potential to become leaders in the fund’s climate themes and emerging commercial traction—early evidence that the business is making commercial progress. This is a limited exception to the growth-stage focus, not a separate funding offer.
Portfolio companies report regularly on their impact. Lightrock’s approach uses metrics and milestones to assess and track progress through the investment lifecycle, in coordination with stakeholders. Founders should be ready to demonstrate the climate benefit of their business and support ongoing measurement.

Use Lightrock’s contact form and select “Potential investment opportunities”. Supply your name, contact email and message; the form also has a company field. Identify the Climate Impact strategy and explain the company, its commercial progress and climate contribution.
The investment team assesses both commercial and impact cases. A suitable approach leads to discussion with the team; the published contact route does not itself promise an investment.
