Support Scheme for Energy Audits
A €2,000 voucher for eligible Irish businesses and public bodies to identify energy-saving improvements through a professional audit.
Denne finansieringsmulighed er i øjeblikket beskrevet på engelsk.
An energy auditor examines how your site uses energy and recommends practical ways to improve efficiency. The audit includes energy-data analysis, a site visit and a written report. It covers onsite energy use and, where relevant, company fleet fuel, but excludes activities carried out offsite.
The voucher pays for the audit, not equipment or other services. It is only for your organisation and the site named in your application; you cannot transfer it to another party. Your auditor claims payment from SEAI after completing the required report and submission. You pay any agreed cost above €2,000; the voucher cannot be exchanged for cash or split, and no change is given.
Eligibility
Your organisation and the site being audited must be based in the Republic of Ireland. You must own or lease the site for your business activity, be tax compliant and provide a valid company registration or public-body number.
The scheme is for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and other eligible commercial or public bodies that are not already legally required to undergo an energy audit. It excludes the residential sector and organisations subject to that legal audit requirement.
- Businesses must meet the EU SME definition. The application guidance asks for fewer than 250 staff and either annual turnover below €50 million or a balance-sheet total below €43 million. A business that belongs to a larger group may need to include the group’s staff and financial figures too.
- Public bodies must confirm in their application that their useful floor area is below 500 m² and annual energy spending is below €35,000.
- Your site must spend at least €10,000 including VAT on energy in a typical consecutive 12-month period. Electricity and heating count; transport fuel does not count toward this threshold. The auditor must verify spending from utility bills, not estimates.
- Derelict or unoccupied premises, and premises due for demolition or repurposing, are excluded.
- Only one voucher is available per applicant organisation, including its other sites, branches and franchises. The same audit cannot receive funding from another SEAI or Irish government grant or voucher scheme.
- The voucher is de minimis aid, a category of small amounts of public business support. Add this voucher to all such aid received during the previous three years by your organisation and any linked enterprises. That combined total must not exceed €300,000; the limit applies to the linked group as a whole.

- Vouchers are issued first come, first served, subject to the annual budget.
- The voucher must be issued before the audit and presented to SEAI within eight months of issue.
Choose an auditor from SEAI’s register who participates in this scheme. Confirm their availability and agree the audit price before applying. If it exceeds €2,000, SEAI recommends getting three quotes.
Apply yourself through the SEAI online application portal; an auditor or consultant cannot apply for you. Provide your organisation details, tax-compliance information and the site’s meter-point reference number (MPRN), found on its electricity bill. Email and paper applications are not accepted.
Wait for the voucher before the audit starts: earlier audits are ineligible. Arrange the visit with your auditor, provide 12 months of energy bills and ensure a member of staff can participate. Have the necessary internal approvals in place.
The auditor supplies the report within 10 working days of the site visit. If satisfied, a director or senior manager signs the Completion of Works form with the auditor, who submits the report and claims payment. The audit must take place and the auditor must present the voucher to SEAI within eight months of issue.
