Solar loan
Fixed-rate loans for home solar installations and related energy improvements, for borrowers who meet Clearwater Credit Union’s Montana county membership requirements.

Borrow USD 5,000–75,000 to install roof- or ground-mounted solar panels. The Solar Loan can also cover roof work associated with installation, batteries and battery storage, generators, electric-vehicle wiring and wiring upgrades, and ground- or air-source heat pumps, including mini-splits.
You repay the borrowed money with interest through monthly loan payments over 60–240 months (5–20 years). Clearwater’s published rate table, effective January 2, 2026 and subject to change, lists an annual percentage rate (APR) of 6.45%–6.74%. Its examples show a USD 10,035 loan with monthly payments of USD 195.13 over 60 months at 6.60% APR, or USD 74.17 over 240 months at 6.50% APR.
Qualifying Solar Loans may receive a permanent rate buy-down, which reduces the APR for the full repayment term. The published payment examples do not include this reduction. Your final APR, payment, loan amount and repayment term depend on credit approval, project cost, the equipment offered as security, the loan term and Clearwater’s lending assessment.
Clearwater records a Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) lien on your solar equipment: a legal claim over the equipment as security for the loan. A USD 35 fee for filing that lien is included with the loan.
Eligibility
- You must meet Clearwater’s membership eligibility and receive loan approval. The final terms depend on the credit and project assessment described above.
- You can join if you live, work, worship, attend school, volunteer or participate in a membership-based organization in one of these Montana counties: Beaverhead, Big Horn, Broadwater, Carbon, Cascade, Chouteau, Deer Lodge, Fergus, Flathead, Gallatin, Glacier, Golden Valley, Granite, Jefferson, Judith Basin, Lake, Lewis & Clark, Lincoln, Madison, Meagher, Mineral, Missoula, Musselshell, Park, Pondera, Powell, Ravalli, Rosebud, Sanders, Silver Bow, Stillwater, Sweet Grass, Teton, Toole, Treasure, Wheatland, and Yellowstone.
