Residential weatherization rebate

Farmers Electric Cooperative, Inc.Iowa

Rebates for cooperative members improving insulation, air sealing or ducts in older homes with qualifying electric heating or central air conditioning.

Denne finansieringsmulighed er i øjeblikket beskrevet på engelsk.

The cooperative pays a rebate toward qualifying home insulation, permanent air sealing and duct improvements. For homes qualifying for electric heat, it pays 60% of eligible costs: up to $600 each for attic/ceiling, wall and foundation insulation, and $200 each for air sealing and duct insulation/sealing. The total lifetime programme limit is $2,200 per home. For central-AC-only homes, it pays 15% of eligible attic/ceiling and wall insulation costs, up to $150 each and $300 per home over the programme's lifetime.

Contractor material and labour costs count, but your own labour on self-installed work does not. If you generate electricity yourself, the rebate is reduced according to the share of your power supplied by the cooperative.

Eligibility

You must be a cooperative electricity member, and the installation must be at a location served by the cooperative. Your residential home must have been built before 2000; new additions do not qualify. The total project must cost at least $150.

  • For the electric-heat tier, electric heating must heat 75% of the home and run before any non-electric backup. Portable space heaters do not count; air conditioning is not required. For the central-AC-only tier, central air conditioning must cool the whole home except the basement, and the heating system must not qualify for the electric-heat tier.
  • Insulation must start below the form's maximum existing R-value, which measures resistance to heat flow. Attic/ceiling insulation must start below R-20 and finish at least R-38. Walls must start below R-13, finish at least R-13 and add at least R-5. Foundations must start below R-8, finish at least R-5 and add at least R-5. Duct insulation must start below R-3 and finish at least R-8.
  • Air sealing can include house wrap, vapor barriers, permanent weatherstripping, caulking and foam sealing. Temporary removable caulking and plastic window covers do not qualify.
  • A professional must do duct work. Ducts must be in an unconditioned space, such as an attic or crawlspace; work where both ducts and heating equipment are in the basement does not qualify. Duct sealing must use mastic sealant rather than duct tape.

Farmers Electric must approve installations requesting an incentive. Equipment is subject to inspection and minimum electricity-use requirements. A rebate can be denied or adjusted if the installation or application does not meet the cooperative's rules.
