Solar Homes solar panel rebate
Up to AUD 1,400 off solar-panel installation for eligible homeowners in Victoria, including homes being built.

The rebate covers up to 50% of the purchase and installation cost remaining after other discounts have been applied. Solar Victoria pays your retailer, who deducts the rebate from your invoice. You pay the remaining cost once the system is installed.
You can also choose an interest-free loan equal to your rebate, up to AUD 1,400, to reduce the amount you pay upfront. Unlike the rebate, this money must be repaid. The loan is paid directly to your retailer and needs no asset pledged as security. Select it when you apply; repayments are taken automatically from your bank account each month over four years, starting 30 days after your installation is approved.
Eligibility
For the homeowner route, you must be a Victorian householder who owns and lives in the existing home, or owns the home being built where the panels will be installed.
- All owners’ combined household taxable income must be below AUD 150,000 a year.
- The property must be worth less than AUD 3 million, including its completed value if it is being built.
- The address must not previously have received a solar-panel or solar-battery rebate under Solar Homes, and must not have had a solar-panel system installed in the last ten years.
- Use a Solar Victoria authorised retailer and eligible products.
If you have moved after receiving a Solar Homes rebate or loan, you can apply again for your new owner-occupied home if that address has not received these rebates before. The other eligibility conditions still apply. Off-grid homes can qualify too.
A system aged ten years or more may qualify for replacement or extra panels, subject to the eligibility conditions. Before accepting a quote, make sure its inverter can handle the new or additional panels.
The income cap does not apply to households affected by Solstice Energy’s closure of its compressed natural gas network.
Landlords should use the separate rental-property rebate route, which requires an agreement with renters. Not-for-profit community or social housing organisations can email cho@team.solar.vic.gov.au for the programme’s separate eligibility assessment.

Start with an authorised solar retailer and choose eligible products. For a grid-connected system, the retailer must obtain the electricity network operator’s pre-approval to connect and explain any limits on electricity you can export, before uploading your written quote to the Solar Victoria portal.
Solar Victoria then emails you to start your eligibility application in the portal. Upload two forms of ID, income evidence and proof of ownership. Where there are several owners, provide income documents for each from the same financial year. Choose the optional loan in this application if you want it.
Wait for eligibility approval and your QR code before installation: installing earlier means no rebate. Solar Victoria recommends not accepting a quote in writing or paying a deposit before approval; any deposit you do pay should be fully refundable.
Have the system installed within 120 days of the QR code being sent for an existing home, or 270 days for a home being built. The installer must scan the code on site before starting work. For a new build, arrange the builder’s consent and site access early.
