Home Renovation Rebate Program

BC HydroKanadaendet am 30. Nov. 2026

Rebates for British Columbia households upgrading insulation, windows and doors, or electric space and water heating.

Diese Finanzierungsmöglichkeit ist derzeit auf Englisch beschrieben.

Replace electric resistance heating with an eligible heat pump, improve insulation, replace eligible windows and doors, or replace your main electric water heater with a heat pump water heater. This entry covers the BC Hydro-funded route; the joint programme has separate offers for other heating fuels and utility customers.

Space heat pumps receive CAD 4,000 for whole-home heating or CAD 1,500 for partial-home heating. A heat pump water heater receives CAD 1,000. Only one primary space-heating rebate and one primary water-heating rebate may be claimed per home; this limit also applies across the Home Renovation Rebate Program, CleanBC Home Efficiency Rebate Program, FortisBC Income Qualified Program, CleanBC Better Homes Energy Savings Program, CleanBC Income Qualified Program, CleanBC Indigenous Community Heat Pump Incentive and Indigenous Communities Conservation Program.

Windows and doors receive CAD 100 per replaced rough opening, up to CAD 2,000. A rough opening is the opening in the wall: a bay window counts as one even if it has several sections. This rebate excludes homes within the City of Vancouver.

Insulation is paid per square foot and per unit of added thermal resistance (R-value). The rates and minimum added R-values are: attic, CAD 0.02 and R12, capped at CAD 900; exterior wall cavities, CAD 0.09 and R12, capped at CAD 1,200; exterior wall sheathing, CAD 0.09 and R3.8, capped at CAD 1,200; basement/crawlspace walls, CAD 0.09 and R10, capped at CAD 1,200; and exposed floors, floors over crawlspaces or basement headers, CAD 0.07 and R20, capped at CAD 1,000. You can claim one rebate for basement/crawlspace walls or the floor over the crawlspace. If old insulation is removed, payment uses the difference between its R-value and the new insulation; the programme assumes a minimum starting R-value based on the home’s age.

Two bonus-eligible upgrades installed within 18 months of each other can earn a CAD 300 bonus. Alternatively, at least three bonus-eligible upgrades, with a qualified energy advisor's pre- and post-upgrade EnerGuide evaluations, can earn CAD 20 per percentage improvement in the rating, with a minimum CAD 750 and maximum CAD 2,000. Complete the upgrades and post-upgrade evaluation within 18 months of the pre-upgrade evaluation. Only one of these two bonuses is available per home. Each insulation location needs a rebate of at least CAD 500 to count; windows and doors need at least CAD 250. Eligible space- and water-heating upgrades each count as one.

A current heat-pump promotion adds CAD 1,000 for whole-home heating or CAD 500 for partial-home heating when installation is completed, invoiced and paid in full between 1 August and 31 October 2026, with a complete application by 30 November 2026. Your BC Hydro account must be in good standing, with outstanding debts paid. This bonus is paid as a credit against your electricity bill, has no cash redemption value and is not transferable. Complete applications are considered first come, first served while promotion funds last; meeting the conditions does not reserve or guarantee funding.

Eligibility

  • Your home must be a year-round primary residence in British Columbia, at least 12 months old, with a BC Hydro residential account. Eligible forms include detached homes; separately metered secondary suites; permanently fixed, fully serviced mobile homes on foundations with towing equipment and axles removed; and individually metered duplexes, triplexes, row homes and townhomes. Utility accounts must belong to the resident or homeowner rather than a strata corporation. A multiplex must also have individual exterior entrances, no more than three storeys and five units, and no shared hallways, elevator, significant common lighting or central mechanical systems.
  • Condominiums, apartments, high-rises, garages, workshops, outbuildings, additions that enlarge a home, converted non-living spaces and substantially reconstructed homes are excluded. Substantial reconstruction can include structural repairs, moving exterior walls or existing utility lines, or work requiring a New Home Registration Form under the Homeowner Protection Act.
  • For insulation, windows and space heat pumps, the BC Hydro route requires primary electric heating. The general test is capacity to heat at least half the home to 22°C throughout the heating season; the heat-pump test also specifies an outdoor temperature of −5°C or colder. Water-heater rebates require primary domestic hot water heated by BC Hydro electricity; wood- or solid-fuel-heated homes may qualify for this water-heater measure.
  • Use a contractor with a GST number and valid B.C. business licence for the relevant trade. Heat pumps and insulation require a Home Performance Contractor Network member verified for the relevant service. Self-installation is excluded. Insulation must reduce heat loss, follow the prescribed air-sealing and insulation best-practice guide, and use batt, loose fill, board or spray foam. Resolve pests or rodent tunnels before installing new insulation; any remaining infestation or tunnels must be resolved to receive the rebate. Insulation required for code compliance or new construction, including work under New Construction or Addition/Alteration permits, is excluded.
  • Windows and doors must replace existing units between heated and unheated space, have a label showing a U-factor of 1.22 W/m²-K or less (the measure of heat passing through the unit), and be certified by CSA, Intertek, Labtest, QAI, Keystone, NFRC or NAMI. Skylights are excluded.
  • A space heat pump must replace hard-wired electric heating, serve a main living area and be on the qualifying product list. It needs a variable-speed compressor, an AHRI certified reference covering all applicable components, and efficiency ratings of SEER at least 16 with HSPF at least 10, or SEER2 at least 15.2 with HSPF2 at least 8.5. These are the listed cooling and seasonal heating efficiency ratings; have your contractor check the product's listed combination. Homes over 1,200 square feet need a multi-split or central system. Replacing an existing heat pump, adding a head to it, and emergency replacement of broken electric heating are excluded. Installation must follow the incorporated heat-pump best-practice and contractor guides.
  • Whole-home systems must heat the entire home to 22°C at −5°C or colder without electric resistance heat and serve the majority of finished living spaces on each floor. Your contractor must calculate heat loss using CSA F280-12 verified software, including all conditioned finished and unfinished spaces, and provide the calculation summary and report. Equipment must appear on both the rebate list and NEEP cold-climate list, with at least 12,000 BTU rated capacity at 8°C. Partial-home systems must supply at least 50% of the whole home's heating needs to that temperature without electric resistance heat and serve an open finished living area. The contractor guide also specifies a minimum 12,000 BTU capacity; cold-climate listing and verified calculation software are not required for the partial-home rebate. In colder locations the system, with supplemental electric heat if needed, must maintain 22°C at the local design temperature. Supplemental heating must be electric, but a gas or propane fireplace may remain as backup heating.
  • A heat pump water heater must replace the home's primary electric water heater and be Tier 2 or higher on NEEA's qualified product list. Existing heat pump water-heater replacements, including emergency replacement of a broken one, are excluded. Use a licensed heating/cooling contractor or plumber.
  • Rebates cannot exceed the invoiced and paid upgrade cost. Canada Greener Homes Grant support may be combined only within that limit. CleanBC Energy Savings, CleanBC Income Qualified and FortisBC Income Qualified support cannot be combined with these rebates. Warranty- or insurance-covered costs are excluded; finance or lease agreements must result in full ownership. Equipment must be new and not previously installed elsewhere. Dispose of old equipment lawfully; do not resell or reuse it.
  • If an upgrade is removed or decommissioned within one year after the rebate is issued, you must repay the rebate. For the current heat-pump promotion, removing or decommissioning any part of the supported equipment within two years after receiving the bonus requires repayment of the bonus and disqualifies you from the promotion and programme. Receiving duplicate CleanBC Energy Savings or Income Qualified incentives requires repayment of all programme rebates and may exclude you from later programmes. Allow requested site verification for up to one year after application receipt, respond and provide access and information within 30 days of notice, and keep eligibility documents for at least one year after application receipt. Failure to cooperate risks declined applications or forfeited rebates and bonuses.

  • Heat-pump promotion only: installation must be completed, invoiced and fully paid between 1 August and 31 October 2026. Complete applications are due by 30 November 2026; available first come, first served while funds last.[^c13]

Check the measure requirements and arrange an eligible contractor before installation. After completing and fully paying for the work, apply through the joint BC Hydro, FortisBC and CleanBC online rebate form. Submit the claim and supporting documents within six months of the invoice date. Keep the paid invoice; window/door claims also need a manufacturer-label photo for each installed unit, and whole-home heat pumps need the heat-load calculation summary and report. If you are not the utility account holder, submit the signed account-holder consent form.

Claim the two-upgrade bonus within six months of the second upgrade's invoice. For the EnerGuide bonus, apply within six months of the post-upgrade evaluation and include paid evaluation invoices and both Homeowner Information Sheets. The current heat-pump promotion has its separate 30 November 2026 application deadline.

Funding is limited and amounts may change; administrators may prioritize claims and determine payment. Base rebates may be paid by cheque, bill credit or e-transfer. Cash a cheque within six months of issue. Processing can take up to 90 days after all required documents arrive, or longer if selected for site verification.
