Woodland Creation Planning Grant
Up to £30,500 for landowners, land managers and public bodies to prepare a woodland creation design plan for at least five hectares in England.

The grant has two stages. Stage 1 pays £1,500 for desk-based work to identify site constraints. If that work shows potential for a plan that meets the UK Forestry Standard—the technical standard for forestry across the UK—Stage 2 pays £150 per hectare minus the Stage 1 payment, with at least £500 for approved Stage 2 work. The funded planning work applies that standard by considering the site's biodiversity, soils and climate, landscape, water, historic environment and local stakeholders.
Eligibility
Landowners, land managers and public bodies other than Forestry England can apply. If you do not own the land, you need the landowner's consent and signature.
The proposed woodland must be in England and cover at least five hectares in total. Where it is split into blocks, each block must be at least 0.5 hectare and 20 metres wide.
You cannot apply for the same site if you have already applied for the England Woodland Creation Offer or submitted an Environmental Impact Assessment enquiry for new woodland.

Use the current WCPG application, plan and declaration form. Do not begin Stage 1 work until the Forestry Commission has approved the application and you have accepted a signed Stage 1 agreement offer.
At Stage 2, the Forestry Commission consults on the final design and screens it for whether an Environmental Impact Assessment is required.
Applications are accepted throughout the year.
