Energy-efficiency rebates

East-Central Iowa Rural Electric CooperativeIowa

Rebates for ECI REC business customers replacing geothermal or water-source heat pumps at facilities served by the cooperative.

Diese Finanzierungsmöglichkeit ist derzeit auf Englisch beschrieben.

This entry covers the commercial geothermal and water-source replacement options within ECI REC’s energy-efficiency rebates. The rebate depends on cooling capacity, expressed in tons; the form calculates tons by dividing cooling capacity in Btu per hour by 12,000.

For a replacement system, closed-loop geothermal pays $400 per ton for the first 40 tons and $175 per additional ton, capped at $40,000 per customer. Open-loop geothermal pays $300 per ton for the first 40 tons and $125 per additional ton, capped at $20,000. Water-source systems pay $200 per ton for the first 40 tons and $75 per additional ton, capped at $15,000. Replacing geothermal or water-source units on an existing system pays $75 per ton, capped at $10,000 per customer.

A separate contractor incentive pays $40 per ton for the first 50 tons, up to $2,000. If you generate some of your own electricity, the customer rebate is reduced in proportion to the share of power supplied by the utility. Rebates below $500 are credited to the account; rebates above $500 are sent by check within one to five weeks after approval.

Eligibility

You must be an ECI REC member-consumer, with the equipment installed at a facility served by the cooperative. The commercial form covers farm, commercial and industrial accounts. ECI REC serves parts of Benton, Black Hawk, Bremer, Buchanan, Clayton, Delaware, Fayette, Iowa, Johnson, Linn and Tama counties in Iowa.

You must ultimately own the equipment, through purchase or at the end of a short-term lease. Equipment obtained through another utility programme may be ineligible. The 2026 offer covers products purchased or services provided on or after January 1, 2026. New construction and added capacity have potentially different rebates and are outside the replacement options described here.

Have your equipment specifier confirm that the heat pump appears in the AHRI Applied Directory’s WBAHP equipment listing and meets ISO 13256-1 or 13256-2. Use the directory’s closed-loop (GLHP), open-loop (GWHP) or water-loop (WLHP) ratings for the matching rebate. These ratings determine the accepted cooling capacity; rebates are paid in half-ton increments. Closed- and open-loop heat exchangers must maintain water temperatures within the AHRI test parameters. Equipment rated only for water-loop use must use temperature-controlled water, such as a boiler/cooling-tower system, and qualifies only for the water-source rebate.

Tell the installing contractor and the mechanical engineer or equipment specifier about the requirements before installation. Both must sign the programme documentation. The utility may verify purchases, inspect the facility and installed equipment, and deny or adjust a non-compliant claim. It can change or end the programme without notice, so check that the offer remains in effect before buying.
