Electric Vehicle Home Charger Grant
Up to €300 towards buying and installing a registered smart EV home charger in Ireland, for private individuals with eligible parking arrangements.

SEAI administers this grant on behalf of Zero Emission Vehicles Ireland. It contributes up to €300 towards purchasing and installing a home charger; you do not need to own an electric vehicle, and visitor use or rented accommodation can qualify.
Use a Safe Electric Registered Electrical Contractor and a charger on SEAI’s Smart Charger Register. Ask the electrician to survey the home’s electrical supply before choosing equipment. Necessary upgrades to existing wiring, earthing or bonding are not eligible for support. If a registered electrician installs a charger at their own home, only materials qualify.
For an apartment with an existing charging network, first ask the management company for permission to join and confirm the required equipment and supplier. The Home Charger grant for this route is the lower of €300 or the installation cost. Creating a shared network is covered by the separate Apartment Charging Grant, normally arranged through the management company.
Eligibility
The grant beneficiary must be a private individual. These instructions cover homeowners or residents applying for themselves; a company can apply on a resident’s behalf only through SEAI’s separate third-party registration process on the official page.
Normally the private residence must have its own off-street driveway, with the charger, installation work and driveway inside the property boundary. Parking must be associated with the home and the charger connected back to it. The driveway rule may not apply where a multi-unit development has participated in the SEAI Apartment Charger Scheme. Ask SEAI at evchargers@seai.ie to verify eligibility if your arrangement falls outside the stated conditions.
Without off-street parking, a charging arm or similar solution can qualify only with evidence of either a local planning authority’s Section 5 declaration that the development is exempt from requiring planning permission, or full planning permission where it is not exempt. For any installation requiring a new permanent structure or extending beyond the property boundary, you or your installer should seek the planning authority’s declaration; full permission is required for non-exempt development.
The property must not have received a previous EV home charge point grant or the free ESB Ecars home charger offered before 2018. Choose a registered smart charger that meets the scheme’s applicable technical standards; electrical installation must comply with I.S. 10101. The electrician should check the full standards listed in the official terms.

Apply online through the official Homeowner or Resident application route using your 11-digit Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN), found on your electricity bill, and Eircode. For assigned parking in a multi-unit development, also provide the landlord or apartment block MPRN; email evchargers@seai.ie if the development is not listed. Before applying to join an existing apartment network, obtain the management company’s permission, confirm its required equipment and supplier, and follow its instructions to set up an account to pay for using the system.
Wait for grant approval and the start date on the Letter of Offer before any work begins. Approval brings the offer, terms and Payment Request Form link in one email, and an Installation Details Form for your electrician in another. Forward that form to the installer.
Complete installation and return the fully signed Payment Request Form, bank details, Certificate Number 3, Test Record Sheet, invoices and installation photographs within six months of the offer’s issue date. Your electrician must also file Certificate Number 3 with Safe Electric Ireland. SEAI checks the filing and electrician’s registration before paying the grant into your account; the individual route does not allow payment directly into the electrician’s account.
If work has not started and you cannot finish within the validity period, cancel and reapply when ready. If work has already started, continue the original application and inform SEAI. The published terms say work not completed within six months is ineligible; do not assume contacting SEAI grants an extension.
