Ceiling insulation grant
Help with attic insulation costs for Tallahassee residential electric customers who own or rent an eligible home.
Diese Finanzierungsmöglichkeit ist derzeit auf Englisch beschrieben.
The standard grant covers 80% of the installed cost, up to $400. Customers who qualify based on income may receive 100%, up to $500; the City’s energy auditor assesses income eligibility. The City contributes toward the installation cost rather than paying money directly to the utility account holder.
The work must use blown fiberglass or loose-fill cellulose. Contractors provide a limited one-year warranty on a City form. Insulation removal costs are excluded.
Eligibility
- You must be a City of Tallahassee residential electric customer with a suitable attic in a detached home, duplex, triplex or quadruplex. Owners and renters can apply; the applicant is the utility account holder.
- The total installed cost must be at least $500 for either grant.
- An energy audit and City pre-inspection are required before installation, and you must use a contractor from the City’s approved list.
- The insulation target is R38 for homes heated by a natural gas furnace, oil furnace or electric heat pump. For R38, the City gives approximate depths of 15 inches of blown white fiberglass or 10½ inches of loose-fill cellulose. Homes heated by a central electric resistance furnace have an R49 target.
- New construction is excluded. Some additions may qualify where whole-house performance-based Energy Code compliance is not required.
- Foam, rockwool, rockwool batts, fiberglass batts and radiant barriers are excluded.
- Landlord arrangements may be possible if tenants are informed and the energy auditor receives the required access. The City can assess standard-grant eligibility for unoccupied premises without an active utility account case by case.
