Municipal fleet electrification feasibility study
A grant for Canadian municipalities and qualifying partners to assess and plan the transition of a municipal or transit fleet to zero-emission vehicles.

Plan the transition of a municipal or transit fleet to battery-electric, plug-in hybrid electric or hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles. The study must establish the fleet's fuel use, operating costs and greenhouse-gas emissions, analyse replacement timing and total ownership costs, and identify charging or fuelling needs. It must also model at least one option to reduce the number or size of vehicles and include an equity assessment.
The standard grant covers up to 50% of eligible costs, to a maximum of C$200,000. Municipalities and partners serving populations of 10,000 or fewer, qualifying regional groups, eligible Indigenous communities and northern communities may qualify for up to 80%. First-time northern and eligible Indigenous applicants may qualify for up to 100%.
Eligibility
Canadian municipal governments can apply. Companies, municipally owned corporations, regional, provincial or territorial organisations delivering municipal services, NGOs, nonprofits and research institutes can apply as municipal partners. A non-municipal applicant must deliver the project with a municipal government. An Indigenous community can lead if it partners with a Canadian municipality or has a relevant shared-service agreement with one.
The study must assess one of the following:
- the entire municipal or transit fleet;
- an entire fleet segment, such as the waste fleet; or
- several heavy-duty vehicles within a fleet.
If the study considers hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles, it must assess the carbon intensity of possible hydrogen sources. At least one source must have a production intensity of no more than 4 kg CO2e per kg of hydrogen.

- Applications are accepted while programme funding remains available.
Create a client profile and submit a pre-application through FCM's funding portal. If Green Municipal Fund confirms that your organisation and project can proceed, complete the full application, project workbook and required supporting documents through the portal.
Quebec municipalities must also follow the provincial MAMH submission route described on the official offer page.
