Food technology investment
Equity investment for companies developing food-production technologies and alternatives to animal products with potential for positive environmental impact.
Αυτή η ευκαιρία είναι προς το παρόν διαθέσιμη στα Αγγλικά.
Synthesis Capital invests money in your company and becomes a part-owner. It backs technologies that change how food is produced, including fermentation, which uses microbes to make ingredients, and cultivation of animal or plant cells. The focus includes technologies used across the food supply chain, rather than only finished food products.
The fund targets investments globally. Its strategy seeks both financial returns and positive environmental impact. Fund I assesses every investment for a net positive environmental outcome, including reductions in greenhouse-gas emissions.
Eligibility
- Your company should develop food technology that directly or indirectly replaces animal products across the supply chain. The broader strategy focuses primarily on seed to Series C companies: businesses developing their technology and scaling it into production and wider use. Synthesis leads investments from Series A to C, with an emphasis on Series A and B.
- Synthesis looks for a credible path to profitable growth and competitive prices. If scaling requires a large factory, the plan must be realistic; it cannot rely on venture investment to build production facilities while funding years of selling at a loss, or on debt-financed expansion that needs 15 years to earn back its cost.
- Show that your technology addresses a customer problem and that customers are willing to pay. For companies that have not started earning revenue, relevant signals can include industry partnerships, active discussions with potential customers, or customer surveys about willingness to pay.
- Protect what makes your technology or business distinctive. Synthesis looks for a combination of protections that can include patents, trade secrets and advantages from proprietary data; patents alone do not define its assessment. It also considers the team’s ability to adapt and deliver.
- Synthesis assesses environmental, social and governance issues, agrees an action plan with the company and requires annual progress reporting against its framework. Its governance assessment includes management quality and employee pay, including the allocation of share options. Fund I investments must be assessed for a net positive environmental outcome, including greenhouse-gas reductions.
