This venture capital route provides money in exchange for ownership in your company. It backs founders building technologies for the physical systems people use, including renewable energy, efficient buildings, cleaner transport, low-carbon materials and industrial emissions reductions. The published investment focus spans Europe and North America.

2150 looks for financial returns alongside measurable environmental results. Its sustainability funds target emissions reduction and climate adaptation, as well as related environmental improvements. 2150 advises the funds; Urban Partners Management Company makes the investment decisions.

Eligibility

This fits companies developing technology with a credible commercial opportunity and a measurable contribution to environmental improvement. The disclosures describe investment in early-stage companies. Assessment includes the market opportunity, financial prospects, potential impact at scale and company governance.

Your company must align with the Paris Agreement: its activity must support a low-carbon path for its sector to 2050, avoid locking in carbon emissions and avoid undermining climate resilience where it operates. It must contribute to at least one environmental objective: climate mitigation, adaptation, sustainable water use, a circular economy, pollution prevention or biodiversity and ecosystem protection.

Investment screening also requires that the activity cause no significant harm to other environmental objectives and respect human-rights and labour safeguards. Companies are assessed for sound management, employee relations, fair pay and tax compliance.

The funds apply the Article 12 exclusions for EU Paris-aligned benchmarks. These rule out companies involved in prohibited weapons—anti-personnel mines, cluster munitions, biological or chemical weapons as defined by the relevant international conventions—or tobacco cultivation and production. They also exclude companies found to violate the UN Global Compact principles or OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises, the international responsible-business standards, and companies found or estimated to significantly harm an EU environmental objective. See ESMA’s explanation, paragraphs 22–23 and the updated weapons definition, Article 1.

Article 12 also excludes companies with at least 1% of revenue from coal and lignite exploration, mining, extraction, distribution or refining; at least 10% from oil exploration, extraction, distribution or refining; at least 50% from gas exploration, extraction, manufacturing or distribution; or at least 50% from electricity generation above 100 grams of CO₂-equivalent per kilowatt-hour. 2150 applies a stricter additional prohibition: an investment must not derive any revenue from exploring, extracting, distributing or refining fossil fuels, or from generating electricity above that emissions level.

If selected, your investment terms include sustainability commitments. These cover climate policies and targets, impact measurement and reporting, and environmental, social and governance practices and risk management. Companies report information that lets the fund track their environmental results over time.

  • Submit a company proposal through the application link on the contact page. Investment follows screening and an agreement.

Use “Apply here” on the official contact page to introduce your company through 2150’s application form.

2150 first screens the company against its minimum environmental criteria, then considers the investment case. A deeper review examines the scale of the potential impact, sustainability, governance and other risks. If it proceeds, the proposed investment terms and final legal agreements set out the company’s sustainability actions and reporting commitments.
