Green home improvement loan
Borrow for insulation, solar panels and other home energy improvements if you are an employed homeowner eligible to join Blues & Twos through your job in North West England.
Αυτή η ευκαιρία είναι προς το παρόν διαθέσιμη στα Αγγλικά.
This page covers adult employed homeowners in their first six months of Blues & Twos Credit Union membership. You can apply for £5,001–£7,500 for evidenced purchases that improve your home’s efficiency, such as double glazing, loft insulation, solar panels or central heating or a new boiler. The credit union assesses each application individually.
The loan can run for up to five years. Your agreement sets the APR—the annual rate used to calculate borrowing costs—and monthly repayment. Interest is charged daily on the balance you still owe. After approval and signing, the credit union pays the money into your nominated bank account.
You repay monthly, starting within one month of receiving the loan, and save at least £10 each month alongside the loan repayment. Contributions first enter your savings account; the agreed repayment then moves to the loan account on its due date. The loan payment repays borrowing and interest; the separate savings contribution builds your savings. Keep at least one repayment plus £10 in regular savings throughout the loan. You may withdraw savings above that reserve.
You can make extra payments or repay early without a penalty. To withdraw from the agreement, give written cancellation instructions and return the money in full within the 14-calendar-day period starting the day after the agreement is made; meeting that deadline means no interest is charged.
Missed payments can damage your credit record. The credit union may use savings to cover missed payments or costs and demand early repayment of the balance and unpaid interest following default or breach. Each transfer to its Member Solutions Team may cost £20, alongside reasonable recovery and court-enforcement costs. Default information may be passed to the Department for Work and Pensions to consider benefit deductions. In rare court cases, recovery can involve proceeds from selling your home or deductions from pay.
Eligibility
- You must own the home, evidence the energy-improvement purchase and be a credit-union member. This entry covers adult employed members in their first six months of membership, with at least three months at their current employer.
- To join through the employment route, work in North West England for an employer or occupation listed on the membership page. The list includes named police, fire, NHS, council, education and care employers, plus teachers, lecturers, education professionals, healthcare professionals and qualifying UNISON or UNITE members. Eligibility is tied to the listed group; working anywhere in the region alone does not qualify.
- Provide enough information for identity verification and agree to regular contributions through payroll deduction, standing order or direct debit. Lending is individually assessed for creditworthiness and suitability, with a credit-reference search if required.
- If you already have a loan with the credit union and want additional borrowing, you must have made at least three monthly repayments on your current loan before applying. The credit union allows up to three loans in any twelve-month period.
- Tell the credit union immediately about changes that may affect repayment, including employment or address changes. If employment within its membership group ends and you miss a payment or fail to notify the relevant change or your alternative repayment plan, the agreement authorizes recovery from final pay and pension or future benefits. Those employer/pension provisions do not apply if you have applied for bankruptcy or been declared bankrupt.
