Energy Transition Implementation Grant
Grants for Scottish small and medium-sized businesses and early stage companies to implement capital investment for cleaner-energy markets.
Use the grant for the work needed to put a planned investment into operation or improve its performance. Eligible costs can include internal staff time, external consultants, temporary specialist or graduate placements on payroll, project materials, intellectual property costs, subcontracted activities and training. These costs must be directly needed to deliver, commission, implement, test, validate or optimise the investment and improve productivity, competitiveness or business performance.
The grant normally covers up to 30% of eligible project costs. Your business covers the remaining costs and pays for the project upfront, then claims reimbursement by an agreed date. Projects normally last up to 12 months and must finish within the available funding period and by the agreed project end date.
The grant does not pay for the capital assets themselves. It also excludes feasibility studies, exploratory work and activity unrelated to implementing the approved investment.
Funding is awarded as Minimal Financial Assistance (MFA), a form of public subsidy with a cumulative limit. Your business or group of businesses under common control must not receive more than £315,000 of MFA from any source or for any purpose across the elapsed part of the current financial year and the two preceding financial years. Keep the MFA confirmation document for at least three years from the date the subsidy is given.
Eligibility
- Your business must be a small or medium-sized business or an early stage company based in Scotland, with at least 10 employees.
- You must be supported through Scottish Enterprise account management or specialist support services and be based in its service area: Aberdeen City and Shire, the east of Scotland, Tayside or the west of Scotland.
- Your business must have, or plan to have, a meaningful role in the energy-transition supply chain. You must have a clear capital investment proposal and be ready to begin delivery; early-stage project ideas do not qualify.
