Green home improvement loan
Borrow €2,000–€75,000 for improvements to your home’s energy efficiency, including insulation, solar panels and heat pumps.
Bank of Ireland lends you money for qualifying home improvements, which you repay with interest over 1–10 years. Repayments can be weekly or monthly.
The bank publishes a variable interest rate of 6.3% and an annual percentage rate (APR) of 6.5% across the loan range. These figures are marked correct as of 5 February 2025 and subject to change.
You can make extra repayments or repay the variable-rate loan early without a penalty. The bank’s personal loans have no arrangement fee, deposit or large final “balloon” repayment.
If you repay monthly and have a Bank of Ireland current account, you can defer the first three monthly repayments. This increases the interest you pay over the loan’s life.
You can also apply for a Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) grant alongside this green loan.
Eligibility
- You must be aged 18 or over, and lending criteria and terms apply. The bank checks your credit history through the Central Credit Register.
- Your work must include at least one of these: a renewable-energy upgrade such as solar panels; attic, floor, wall or pipe insulation; a heat pump; upgraded heating controls; a boiler upgrade; energy-efficient controls; replacement doors or windows; or a deep retrofit, for example as part of the SEAI Deep Retrofit grant.
- The loan cannot finance fossil-fuel heating systems, including under the boiler-upgrade category.
- To apply online, you must live in the Republic of Ireland and already hold a Bank of Ireland current account. Online applications are in one person’s name; new customers and joint applicants can apply by phone.
