Green roof subsidy
A grant for property owners and owners’ associations to install a water-retaining green roof on an existing building in Stichtse Vecht.
Install a planted roof that holds rainwater for longer, reduces pressure on sewers and provides summer cooling.
The grant uses the roof area measured horizontally, as viewed from above. For 6–100 m², you receive €25 per m². For 101–250 m², you receive €20 per m², with a minimum payment of €2,500. Above 250 m², you receive €10 per m², with a minimum payment of €5,000 and a maximum of €10,000.
You can receive a 10% neighbour bonus when two or more directly adjoining properties take part. Each address must apply separately within four weeks of the other applications, and each participating roof area must be no more than 100 m².
Eligibility
- You must be an adult property owner, an owners’ association (VvE), a legal entity that owns the property, or an authorized representative of one of these applicants.
- The building must already exist in Stichtse Vecht, be legally built and appear in the Dutch address and buildings register (BAG).
- Install at least 6 m² of contiguous green roof, with a root-resistant layer, drainage layer, growing-medium layer and vegetation layer. It must store at least 20 litres of water per m². The municipality must consider the roof effective enough at holding and slowing rainwater, and you must have any required permits.
- Work must not have started. Wait for the municipality’s grant approval before beginning.
- The same roof surface cannot also receive the municipal rainwater-disconnection subsidy.
- Keep the installed measure in place and cooperate with any on-site inspection. Notify the municipality immediately if the work or grant obligations cannot be fulfilled.

Complete the work and submit the accountability form within four months of grant approval. Missing either deadline leads to withdrawal of the award. Include before-and-after photographs, an invoice copy and your bank details. The municipality decides on your complete final-settlement request within eight weeks and pays within 30 days of final approval.
Applications are handled in order of receipt of complete applications until the annual budget is exhausted. Until 1 July, two-thirds of the shared scheme budget is reserved for individuals and VvEs and one-third for legal-entity owners, including applications through their representatives. From 1 July through 31 December that split no longer applies. If funds run out, the municipality asks applicants to apply again in the next calendar year.
