Residential appliance efficiency rebates
Rebates for residential City of Madison customers replacing refrigerators or freezers, or buying qualifying washers, electric dryers and dishwashers.
The City pays rebates for new ENERGY STAR appliances, the energy-efficiency models required by this programme.
For a replacement refrigerator, the rebate is $100 if its capacity is greater than 14 cubic feet, or $20 if it is less than 14 cubic feet. A replacement freezer qualifies for $100.
For a clothes washer, electric clothes dryer or dishwasher, the rebate is $50 when replacing an appliance or $25 for a new appliance that is not a replacement.
Rebates are issued by the City; allow up to 90 days for delivery. The City does not warrant the equipment or guarantee a particular energy or cost saving.
Eligibility
- You must be a residential customer of the City of Madison. Each account can receive one rebate per appliance type.
- Buy a new ENERGY STAR product covered by the application, and both purchase it and apply in 2026.
- For replacement refrigerators and freezers, the old appliance must be taken out of service and properly disposed of. Include the retailer’s or recycling centre’s completed disposal verification, a recycling receipt, or official retailer recycling documentation.
- Rebates are first come, first served and depend on eligibility and available funds. The programme can change or end without notice.

Complete and sign the 2026 appliance rebate application. Use a separate form for each appliance. Include a copy of the sales receipt, ENERGY STAR verification and, for a replacement refrigerator or freezer, disposal proof; submitted purchase and ENERGY STAR documents will not be returned.
