Large-roof rainwater disconnection grant
Help for owners of buildings in Zeist to disconnect roofs of at least 500 m² from the sewer so rainwater feeds nearby greenery.
Esta oportunidad está disponible actualmente en inglés.
Disconnect the roof’s rainwater drainage from the sewer so water can soak into the ground locally. This reduces pressure on sewers and wastewater treatment, helps prevent flooding from overflowing sewers and supports soil and greenery during drought. The surroundings must be suitable for this local infiltration.
Gemeente Zeist pays a one-off grant based on actual disconnection costs, up to €10 per m² of roof. The total budget for all applicants is €48,750 in 2027; this is not an individual award limit. Annual budgets and indexation depend on council budget approval. Grants are awarded in order of receipt until the budget is used up, and an award can be refused when the ceiling is reached.
Eligibility
- You must own or co-own the building. It must contain a business, a social organisation or at least three homes.
- The roof must measure at least 500 m², and the building must be in the municipality of Zeist.
- The building must currently connect to a combined sewer, which carries rainwater and wastewater together. The municipality can tell you whether your building has this connection.
Show that the grant is necessary to carry out the work and that the project chiefly benefits Zeist or its residents. The municipality can refuse support if the intended goal or activities are already substantially provided for in another way. Disclose other requested grants or compensation for the same work in your financing plan; businesses must also disclose publicly funded support received or expected and provide a de-minimis declaration recording relevant small-scale state aid. Applicable EU state-aid and legal refusal grounds also apply.

- Apply year-round until the total grant budget has been awarded. The published 2027 programme budget is €48,750, subject to council budget approval.
Apply to Gemeente Zeist through the individual DigiD route or, for an organisation, through eHerkenning at level 2+. Eligible fresh applicants can apply throughout the year until the total budget has been awarded.
Submit evidence of each roof, ownership, building-use and sewer criterion, an implementation plan and a budget. Describe the proposed activities, their goals and results, and how you will finance them, including other requested subsidies. A legal entity applying for the first time must attach its incorporation deed, statutes and previous year’s annual report, accounts and balance sheet; the municipality can vary which documents it requires.
For an award below €5,000, the municipality confirms the grant amount directly after application; provide proof of implementation within 12 weeks after carrying out the work. For more than €5,000, ask the municipality to confirm the final grant amount before 1 May following the subsidy period or within 12 weeks after completing the activities. Include a report on the work, its results and cooperation with other sustainability organisations, plus an income-and-expenditure report. Exactly €5,000 follows the general rules: immediate confirmation of the grant amount or confirmation by the municipality within 12 weeks after the activities’ required completion date. If the municipality requests proof that the work and obligations have been completed, it confirms the final amount within 12 weeks after receiving that information. If an award of exactly €5,000 is granted provisionally, an advance equal to the awarded amount is paid immediately.
Immediately notify the municipality if the activities or grant obligations are unlikely to be fulfilled. Promptly report relevant financial or organisational changes, termination or dissolution, and changes to a legal entity’s statutes affecting its form, directors or purpose in writing. Incomplete implementation or inadequate accountability can lead to a lower final grant and partial recovery.
