Rainwater disconnection and yard greening grant
Grants help residents, businesses and other non-government applicants disconnect rainwater from the sewer and replace paving with greenery on private sites in Hof van Twente.
Esta oportunidad está disponible actualmente en inglés.
Keep rainwater on your own site instead of sending it into the municipal wastewater sewer. The grant covers disconnecting clean hard surfaces, including roofs, and/or removing private yard paving and replacing it with greenery so rainwater can be retained and processed locally.
The payment is €10 per m², limited to your actual costs and a maximum of €1,500 per application. The same installation cannot receive both this contribution and the scheme’s green-blue roof contribution.
Eligibility
- The site must be private land within Hof van Twente. Non-government applicants include residents, businesses, citizen groups and housing associations. Support is available only once per registered plot of land (cadastral parcel).
- At least 20 m² of clean hard surface must be disconnected. When the regulation was established, its rainwater must have been legally discharged into the municipality’s public gravity-fed wastewater sewer, rather than a mechanical sewer.
- Process rainwater adequately on your own site and provide at least 20 litres of storage per m² to retain and slowly release it. Once that storage is fully used, water may visibly overflow above ground into public space.
- Keep the disconnection functioning and properly maintained for at least five years. Allow the municipality access to inspect compliance.
- Projects already completed or under way when the regulation took effect are excluded. Apply before carrying out the work and wait until the municipality has decided on the grant. Tenants need the owner’s written consent.
- Support is refused if neither infiltration into the soil nor discharge to open water is feasible, if neighbouring parcels could suffer nuisance, or if the work is undesirable for environmental hygiene or water-system reasons. Costs that are not reasonably necessary may be refused in whole or part.

- Apply by telephone before carrying out the work; wait for the grant decision. Awards depend on the shared annual budget.
Call gemeente Hof van Twente on 0547 – 85 85 85 to apply for the rainwater disconnection grant. A green garden, a planted depression that temporarily stores rainwater (wadi), or a pond is needed to collect the water.
Submit an itemised budget and/or quotation showing labour, quantities and materials, a work schedule, and a site sketch or description of how the disconnection will work. Include the owner’s written consent if you rent. The municipality decides within eight weeks after receiving a complete application and may extend this once by up to four weeks.
Complete applications are normally considered in receipt order; same-day ties are drawn if the budget would be exceeded. The municipality may instead prioritise effectiveness and cost efficiency. The scheme shares an annual €75,000 budget for 2021–2030, with unused funds carried forward. Awards can be limited or refused when that budget is reached.
Do the work within the deadline set for it, and obtain written permission before departing from your approved application. Notify the municipality within four weeks of completion, providing an itemised invoice and photographs of the work and final result. Failure to meet conditions can lead to refusal; a revocation or amendment can take effect retrospectively unless the decision states otherwise.
