BeyondNetZero energy transition investment
Equity investment for fast-growing technology companies expanding solutions that make the global energy system more efficient.
Esta oportunidad está disponible actualmente en inglés.
General Atlantic’s Energy Transition strategy, also known as BeyondNetZero, invests in companies developing the shift to a more efficient energy system. It provides growth equity: General Atlantic invests money and becomes a part-owner of the company.
One example is PowerGEM, which provides software and technical services for planning and operating electricity grids. Its 2026 investment supports product integration, new AI capabilities, wider commercial reach and further acquisitions.
Eligibility
- The strategy seeks fast-growing companies expanding technologies for the energy transition. It focuses on asset-light businesses: those that can grow with relatively little investment in physical assets.
- BeyondNetZero’s published fund framework allows investment in companies that can set and deliver a science-based net-zero target, and/or generate or enable verifiable avoided emissions. Avoided emissions means emissions prevented by a solution replacing a higher-emission alternative or helping others reduce their emissions.
- Portfolio companies must set net-zero targets. The framework encourages targets under the Science Based Targets initiative, which independently validates company targets against emissions-reduction pathways aligned with reaching net zero by 2050. Other net-zero targets and frameworks may be used where SBTi is not commercially viable for the company’s business model.
- Companies measure direct emissions, emissions from purchased energy and emissions across their value chain to track progress. The fund or an appointed third party also requests information to assess harmful environmental and social impacts.
