Custom energy-efficiency rebates
Rebates for electricity-saving equipment projects by commercial, industrial and agricultural cooperative members.
Esta oportunidad está disponible actualmente en inglés.
The custom efficiency route supports your own proposal to reduce electricity use. Lake Region Electric Cooperative provides an energy-efficiency analysis and calculates a rebate using electricity demand in kilowatts (kW), annual electricity use in kilowatt-hours (kWh), and operating hours.
The rebate can cover at most 50% of project costs, with a further dollar ceiling set by the cooperative. Payment follows completed installation. The cooperative does not warrant the equipment, design or installation and does not guarantee a particular level of energy or cost savings.
Eligibility
- You must be a commercial, industrial or agricultural member of Lake Region Electric Cooperative. Its electricity-service territory is in west central Minnesota, including Otter Tail, Wilkin, Grant, Douglas, Clay and Becker counties.
- Obtain preapproval for the custom project. The cooperative inspects the project site before approval, and you must check funding availability and programme parameters with it.
- New or proposed energy-efficient equipment must meet or exceed current city, state or federal energy codes. Its electrical power quality must meet both tests: harmonic distortion below 20% and power factor of at least 90%. Provide the manufacturer’s equipment specifications to the cooperative for its assessment. Power-factor correction projects are excluded.
- Installation must be complete before you submit the final rebate application and before payment. You and your vendor must supply itemized equipment and labour invoices, equipment quantities and prices, and manufacturer specifications including model numbers. The cooperative may inspect completed installations.
- Apply within 12 months of the invoice date and meet the current custom application deadline. The signed application certifies that you are responsible for its accuracy, programme rules have been followed, and installation is complete.

Contact Lake Region Electric Cooperative at (800) 552-7658 or rebates@lrec.coop to discuss your efficiency proposal, verify available funding and obtain preapproval. Provide equipment nameplate data and manufacturer specification sheets so the cooperative can assess the rebate, and arrange its required site inspection.
After installation, submit the signed custom rebate form with your preapproval form, itemized project invoices and equipment specifications. For 2026, the custom form requires applications by 19 November, the third Thursday in November; this earlier custom deadline applies rather than the general rebate page’s 15 December deadline. Rebates remain subject to available funds and the 12-month invoice limit.
