Commercial equipment rebates

Rebates help commercial gas customers in Illinois install efficient equipment, including condensing boilers for space heating.

Esta oportunidad está disponible actualmente en inglés.

This entry covers the account-holder route for a professionally installed condensing space-heating boiler within the wider commercial equipment rebate programme. The rebate is $1.50 per MBTUH of boiler input capacity; MBTUH means one thousand British thermal units per hour. Boilers with an input capacity of 300–2,500 MBTUH need thermal efficiency (TE) of at least 90%; boilers rated 0–299 MBTUH need annual fuel utilization efficiency (AFUE) of at least 90%. Check the equipment specifications against the appropriate efficiency rating.

A condensing boiler must have an outdoor-air reset control, built in or added separately, unless its supply temperature stays at or below 140°F. It must heat the building. Boilers above 2,500 MBTUH are outside this rebate route.

The rebate cannot exceed the total purchase price. Eligible costs are materials, equipment, products and outside labour.

Eligibility

You must be a current commercial Nicor Gas customer with an active account serving the non-residential installation space when the work is completed. Public and private-sector commercial customers are included; self-directed customers are excluded. The applicant must own the property or have the owner’s permission.

Customers with North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code 22111, or a code beginning 31, 32 or 33, are excluded if annual aggregate gas use reaches 4 million therms in Nicor Gas territory or 8 million therms in Illinois. The terms also exclude customers in those code categories using gas as feedstock who meet those usage thresholds and whose annual feedstock use exceeds 60% of total annual gas use.

Buy new equipment. Used, rebuilt, rented or leased equipment, replacement parts fitted to existing equipment, insurance or warranty replacements and prizes do not qualify. Switching between gas and electricity is excluded. In an existing facility, the new gas equipment must replace gas equipment serving the same purpose. New construction and major renovation must meet the other programme qualifications.

Use a professional contractor for the route described here. Installation must follow manufacturer specifications, building and state/local codes, environmental, health and safety rules, and ventilation requirements where applicable. The equipment must be installed and operating at the address on the application before you submit it.

You cannot receive another rebate for the same equipment or service from an Illinois investor-owned utility or a third-party energy efficiency programme offering ratepayer-funded rebates or financing, except qualifying joint ComEd/Nicor Gas offers.

Allow reasonable facility access if requested for installation verification. If contacted by a programme evaluator for verification or a customer survey, participation is required.
