Lowland Peat Water Implementation Grant
Grants of normally £100,000–£2 million for land managers and organizations installing water controls that make higher water tables possible on drained lowland peat in England.

Put an existing implementation plan into practice with gates, weirs, pumps, storage lagoons, drainage changes, earthworks, telemetry and related design, permissions, construction, engagement or monitoring. The main aim is to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions by enabling lowland peat to be managed at higher water tables; projects can also support flood, drought, biodiversity and sustainable-land-use benefits.
The grant can normally cover up to 100% of eligible project costs. Exceptional proposals may request less than £100,000 or more than £2 million when the need or benefit is clearly justified.
Eligibility
A charity, nonprofit, public body, land manager, business or commercial enterprise can apply. One legal entity must receive the award, while the project should be developed with affected land managers, landowners and other stakeholders.
Your project must be on actively drained lowland peat in England and include a long-term plan for maintaining the water-management outcomes. You need a completed implementation plan at least at outline-design stage, agreed outcomes and written support from every landowner in the project area. Early feasibility and concept development are not eligible. The work must not be something you are already legally required to do, and it cannot already be fully funded from another source.

- The Environment Agency expects another application round in summer 2028.
Email peatwatergrants@environment-agency.gov.uk with “Lowland peat water implementation grant form” in the subject line. Complete the form without changing it, have an authorized person sign it, and email it back with the implementation plan, monitoring plan, maps, cost evidence and written stakeholder and landowner support. The Environment Agency must receive the full application by the listed deadline.
