Plug-in solar grant
A €100 grant towards a new plug-in solar device installed and used on a building in Gelsenkirchen.

The city pays €100 per device, up to the purchase price, for buying, installing and commissioning a new plug-in solar system with an inverter output of no more than 800 W. Only one device per dwelling can receive funding.
Other funding is allowed under this grant, but you must check whether the other programmes allow this combination. Awards are discretionary, with no legal entitlement, and depend on the city’s available annual budget and cash funds.
Eligibility
- Individuals, private-law legal entities, businesses, companies, communities, nonprofits, cooperatives, renewable-energy communities, foundations and associations can apply if they install and use the device on a building in Gelsenkirchen. Federal, state and municipal institutions cannot apply.
- Used devices, installations required by law and measures conflicting with planning or building rules are excluded. The system must not have been registered in the federal Marktstammdatenregister before 1 January 2024.
- Check compliance with statutory requirements and applicable local design or heritage-area rules. Follow the local grid operator’s connection conditions and relevant national and international technical standards.
- Keep the system available for its intended use and in suitable condition for at least ten years from completion. Agree to publication of a photograph of the completed system on the city’s website.
- Keep all invoices for ten years from completion. City staff may inspect by arrangement. Deviations from the submitted documents need the approving authority’s prior written consent.
- Breaching conditions can lead to loss or revocation of funding, including after payment. Amounts wrongly received are reclaimed and bear annual interest from payment at five percentage points above the Deutsche Bundesbank base rate.

- Applications are currently accepted after installation and operational registration. The rules expire on 13 December 2026; funding ends earlier if the annual budget is exhausted. Complete applications are handled in receipt order.
Apply after installation and commissioning. Register the system in the Bundesnetzagentur’s Marktstammdatenregister, the federal energy-installation register, with status “in Betrieb” (operational).
Read the funding rules and submit a signed application and signed data-protection consent, purchase receipts or invoices showing total costs and installed inverter and module power, an operational register extract, and photographs of the installed system.
Submit through the municipal service portal or email foerderprogramm-pv@gelsenkirchen.de. Paper forms are available from Referat Umwelt, Rathausplatz 1, 45894 Gelsenkirchen. The city’s Referat Umwelt checks the documents, decides the award and pays after completion, commissioning and registration. Complete applications are processed in order of receipt; additional detail may be requested.
