Solar Homes hot water rebate
Homeowners living in their property in Victoria can get up to AUD 1,000 towards an eligible replacement heat-pump or solar hot-water system, or up to AUD 1,400 for an eligible locally made model.

The rebate covers 50% of the system’s purchase price after other discounts, including federal renewable-energy certificates and Victorian energy-efficiency certificates, have been applied. The usual limit is AUD 1,000, rising to AUD 1,400 for products on the locally made incentive list. Solar Victoria pays your retailer directly, reducing your invoice; you pay the outstanding balance after installation.
For the higher rebate, choose a model on the official locally made list. These products must have at least 50% locally made or assembled parts; they need not be entirely Australian-made. A separate AUD 600 top-up is available to eligible households affected by Solstice Energy’s network closure, as explained below.
Eligibility
You must own and live in the existing property in Victoria where the new system will be installed. The standard conditions are:
- All owners’ combined household taxable income must be below AUD 150,000 a year.
- The property must be worth less than AUD 3 million.
- The address must not already have received a hot-water or solar-battery rebate under Solar Homes.
- The system being replaced must be at least three years old from its purchase date.
Use an authorised hot-water retailer and a product on the eligible list. If you received Solar Homes support at a previous home, you can apply at your new owner-occupied address if that property has not received the relevant rebates before.
If your household is affected by Solstice Energy’s closure of its compressed natural gas network, the income cap and minimum system age do not apply. These households can also receive a top-up of AUD 600 if they do not qualify for a Victorian Energy Upgrades hot-water discount.
How to apply

- Choose an authorised hot-water retailer and an eligible system using the lists linked from the official rebate page. Ask for a written quote; the retailer uploads it to the Solar Victoria portal.
- After Solar Victoria emails you about the uploaded quote, apply through the portal. Supply the quote number, two forms of ID and proof of income. Where several owners are listed on the rates notice or property title, supply income evidence for each from the same financial year.
- Normally, wait for eligibility approval and your QR code before installation. Complete installation within 120 days of the code being sent. Your installer must scan it onsite before starting work.
Solar Victoria recommends not accepting a quote in writing or paying a deposit before approval. If you do pay a deposit, make sure it is fully refundable.
If your system has broken down or is unsafe, an authorised retailer can install an eligible replacement before approval. Apply as soon as possible afterwards and tick the emergency-installation box when entering your quote details. You may receive no rebate if you do not meet the eligibility conditions.
