Greening grant — green roofs
A grant for residents, businesses and organizations in Wageningen to install a green roof that captures rainwater and provides cooling in summer.

The greening subsidy contributes to the cost of installing a roof covered with plants. Green roofs capture water and provide cooling in summer.
For an ordinary green roof of at least 5 m², the grant is €20 per m², up to €400. The higher rate is €30 per m², up to €600, also from 5 m². To qualify for that rate, at least 50% of the plants must be plants other than sedum, and/or the roof must have extra water-storage capacity of at least 50 litres per m².
The total subsidy is capped at €600 per address and can never exceed the costs incurred.
Eligibility
- You must be a resident or business in Wageningen, or apply on behalf of an organization in Wageningen. This entry covers green-roof installation under the local greening subsidy.
- You must own the home or building, or be a tenant with your landlord’s written permission.
- The roof covering must be in good condition and the roof must be strong enough to carry the green covering. A green-roof supplier can advise you.
- Install at least 5 m² of green roof. The higher rate requires the plant mix and/or additional water storage described above.

Residents apply through the municipality’s online form using DigiD. An organization uses the personal DigiD of a board member authorized under its statutes to represent it. If several board members must sign, email vergroening@wageningen.nl or call (0317) 49 29 11. Businesses apply through that email address or phone number.
Include a drawing showing the area you will green, a cost calculation and a photo of the situation before greening. You must also send a photo of the completed result. The municipality responds within six weeks.
