This pilot reimburses 40% of the cost of a diesel-system audit and its report, up to NZD20,000. The applicant pays the balance. It funds an accredited energy auditor to analyse current diesel use and identify efficiency improvements; the quoted support covers the audit and report rather than purchasing the recommended upgrades.
The funded work includes a detailed onsite analysis lasting one to three days. The auditor communicates immediate opportunities on the day, such as changing process settings, sealing leaks or improving insulation, and supplies a summary within 10 working days. The final report follows within an agreed timeframe and identifies longer-term opportunities likely to need significant capital investment.
EECA estimates an audit may cost around 5% of annual boiler operating costs. That is an indicative service-cost estimate, not the grant rate: the reimbursement rate is 40%, subject to the NZD20,000 cap.
Eligibility
Businesses must be based and registered in New Zealand. State-owned enterprises, local councils and regional councils are also eligible. Annual bills for the diesel system must be over NZD500,000, not merely equal to that amount. Public service departments, non-public service departments such as the New Zealand Defence Force, schools and statutory Crown entities are excluded.
The system must be a large, complex diesel-powered boiler or process-heat system. Type 3 means a detailed assessment of how energy is currently used and where efficiency can improve, including larger upgrades needing more certain cost and savings estimates.
