Heating and cooling upgrade
ACT residents replacing ducted gas heating can receive an installation discount and electricity bill credits for an approved ducted reverse-cycle system.
Cette fiche est actuellement disponible en anglais.
Replace your ducted natural gas heater with an approved electric reverse-cycle system, which heats and cools your home. The upgrade includes insulated ducting to reduce heating and cooling losses.
The standard offer gives AUD 2,500 off installation costs and AUD 500 in ActewAGL electricity bill credits over three years, credited at AUD 41.67 per quarter. Eligible concession holders and qualifying households experiencing financial hardship receive a higher discount: AUD 5,000 off installation and AUD 1,000 in credits over three years, at AUD 83.33 per quarter. Amounts include GST. These are discounts and account credits, rather than a cash payment to you.
The installation discount goes to the person paying for the upgrade, who must hold an ActewAGL electricity account. The bill credits go to the account holder living at the upgraded property, whether an owner occupier or a tenant.
If you close your ActewAGL electricity account, unused credits expire and do not restart if you later reopen an account. ActewAGL may make an exception if the customer moves outside its region or dies: send supporting evidence to energyefficiency@actewagl.com.au. If it approves the exception, the remaining credit is applied to the final account and refunded through direct debit. If you move within the ACT and stay with ActewAGL, tell it about the move so the credit follows you to the new property.
Eligibility
- You must live in the ACT and have an active ActewAGL electricity account when buying the equipment. The offer applies to installations after 30 June 2026.
- Replace an existing ducted natural gas heater with an ActewAGL-nominated ducted electric reverse-cycle air conditioner with heating capacity from 11.2 kW to 25 kW. Your approved retailer must supply and install it. Installers must have access to replace the existing ducts; the overview identifies R-1.5 as the required ducting rating.
- The authorised installer must decommission and remove the old appliance.
- The offer excludes government or commercial projects, new homes, property developments, properties on the Asbestos Response Taskforce’s affected-properties list, and residential premises being developed or refurbished under an existing development approval.
- For the higher concession discount, present a qualifying card showing a residential address matching the installation address. The listed cards are Government Energy Concession Card; Commonwealth Health Care, Pension Concession, Seniors Health, Low Income Health Care and Disability Support Pension cards; War Widows Repatriation Card; Department of Veterans Affairs Pension Card, TPI Card (gold) or Repatriation Health Card (gold). Households accessing an ActewAGL financial hardship scheme are also listed. Without one of these cards, a household experiencing financial hardship needs a referral from a specified community organisation or access to an energy retailer’s hardship program.
- The homeowner must sign the consumer declaration on the Activity Record Form. Someone over 18 must remain onsite whenever the installer is at the property. The customer may also need to attend a post-installation inspection and handover.
