Building insulation grants

Canton AargauSuisse2 k CHF et plus

Grants for owners insulating roofs, exterior walls and buried walls or floors of existing buildings in Aargau permitted before 2000.

Cette fiche est actuellement disponible en anglais.

This route pays investment grants for insulating an existing building in Aargau. Roofs and walls or floors against the ground receive CHF40 per m²; exterior walls receive CHF60 per m². The grant must reach CHF2,000. It cannot exceed 50% of the investment costs relevant to the insulation work. Published rates apply up to a total contribution of CHF50,000 per building, project and funding measure; above that amount the canton decides individually, so CHF50,000 is not an absolute ceiling.

Payment normally follows within 30 days after complete final-account documents arrive and goes to the building client. There is no entitlement to funding, and even an award depends on sufficient approved funds being available when payment is due.

Eligibility

  • The building must be in canton Aargau and its building permit must date from before 2000. Only parts already heated before renovation qualify, except roofs above unheated attics and facade sections alongside unheated basement rooms. New extensions, additions and extra storeys do not qualify.
  • Insulated elements must achieve a U-value of at most 0.20 W/(m²·K); walls and floors more than 2 metres underground may reach 0.25. A U-value measures heat passing through the element; the required improvement is at least 0.07 W/(m²·K). Protected buildings or elements may receive relief if you demonstrate the required values cannot be achieved. This covers nationally or regionally significant items in federal, cantonal or municipal inventories, or items defined as protected by an authority.
  • From CHF10,000 per application, a GEAK Plus energy assessment is compulsory. It combines the building energy certificate with renovation recommendations. If GEAK Plus is unavailable, a preliminary analysis with recommendations following the Swiss Federal Office of Energy specification is required instead. A new application for the same property is possible only after the earlier application has been completed and paid.
  • The work must reduce building CO₂ emissions. Process heat savings, luxury uses such as pool heating, and CO₂-exempt sites are excluded. Federal public buildings and cantonal public buildings controlled directly through investment credits are excluded. Institutions financed through a cantonal global credit remain eligible where the cantonal government or parliament has no direct influence over individual credits.
  • You must obtain the necessary permits and comply with applicable rules. Report any departure from the approved project to the processing office before carrying it out. Allow the energy division access to project records and inspection of the building or installation.
  • The canton receives all eligible CO₂ reductions from the funded work. You cannot split these with third parties or sell CO₂ certificates. Deduct the grant from the maintenance costs claimed in your tax return. If the investment raises rent or lease payments, deduct the grant from the investment share borne by tenants or lessees, and notify them when the grant is paid.

How to apply

Statut
Candidatures au fil de l’eau
Conditions de cette période de candidature
  • Submit the complete signed application before work starts. Funding remains conditional on sufficient approved funds at payment.

Use the application link on the official “So geht’s” page to register your project in the building-programme portal. Then send the signed application and required attachments by post to the processing office named on the application. It counts as submitted only when that office has the complete signed documents, and they must arrive before building or installation work starts. Current rates and conditions are determined by the electronic submission date.

Include the signed form, a marked site plan, current photos, quotations, area calculations, before-and-after U-values and the required GEAK Plus assessment. The energy office normally processes applications within four to six weeks and sends its decision by post.

Complete the work and submit the completion form within two years of the award. If you need longer, post a justified extension request before expiry. For payment, send the signed completion claim and all required attachments before the award expires; the postmark determines the date. For insulation this includes invoices, photos and revised area calculations if the area changed. The award lists the required attachments.
