Growth investment for bio-based and circular businesses
Investment for European companies scaling biological alternatives to fossil-based products or circular production, with a demonstrated climate benefit.

The European Circular Bioeconomy Fund (ECBF) invests in growing businesses that use biological resources or keep materials in use through circular production. Its focus includes agricultural technology, chemicals and biotechnology, construction, consumer goods, food, packaging and plastics. The aim is to replace fossil-based systems while building companies with strong commercial potential.
This is venture investment: ECBF becomes an owner in the business and takes an active role in helping it grow. It invests alongside private and public investors and provides strategic support, mentoring and help with expansion and team development.
Eligibility
ECBF targets European companies ready to expand, from their first European expansion towards global markets. Its published stage focus is Series A, B and C: funding rounds for companies developing and scaling their business, rather than a research grant for an initial idea. Your business must fit the bioeconomy or circular economy focus and show potential for innovation, financial returns and environmental impact.
Every investment must demonstrate a contribution to climate-change mitigation through greenhouse-gas reductions and the enhancement of carbon sinks, which store carbon outside the atmosphere. ECBF assesses that contribution using evidence-based methods and external verification.
The business must contribute to an environmental objective, avoid significant harm to other environmental or social objectives, and follow good governance practices. ECBF checks environmental, social and governance factors before investing and during its ownership, including adverse impacts and the financial effects of climate risks.
