EV chargepoint grant for renters and flat owners
Get 75% towards buying and installing a home electric-vehicle charging socket, up to £500, if you rent a residential property or own and live in a flat in the UK, with private off-street parking.

The grant covers one charging socket. Your installer deducts it from your invoice and claims payment from the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) after installation. You pay the remaining cost; the grant is not paid to you as cash.
You must comply with the grant conditions and cooperate with audits. OZEV may withhold or reclaim the grant if you do not provide requested information or allow a site visit.
Eligibility
- You must live in the UK property where the charging socket will be installed. You can rent a residential property or own and live in a flat, including a shared-ownership flat. Empty properties and homes still being built are excluded, as are properties in the Channel Islands or Isle of Man.
- Your parking space must be private, off-street, clearly defined and accessible to you at all times. It can be separate from your home, but you must own it or have a legal right to use it, with proof of the necessary rights and permissions. Your installer must assess whether charging there is safe.
- Your vehicle must be on the OZEV-approved list. You need evidence that you are its registered owner, have leased it for at least six months, have used it as a work vehicle for at least six months, or have it on order for delivery within three months.
- If your vehicle lease includes a chargepoint, the agreement must say that you own the chargepoint once payment is complete and separately list the chargepoint and installation costs, including VAT. The lease must be for at least six months, the warranty must meet the grant requirements, and you must show your installer proof of the lease.
- You cannot apply if you own and live in a house, unless it has been converted into flats and you live in just one of them. Lodgers living with their landlord or homeowner, and people moving or planning to move, cannot apply.
- You cannot apply if you have already claimed this grant, the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme or the Domestic Recharge Scheme. Legally required charging installations, infrastructure already funded by another grant, and replacement of grant-funded infrastructure are excluded.
- OZEV-authorised installers and installer representatives cannot apply themselves. Their directors and employees may apply for a property only if an independent business carries out the installation, with no financial, operational or other involvement on their part.

- Do not install the chargepoint until OZEV has notified you that you are eligible for the grant.
- Use the official application guidance to check the approved vehicle and chargepoint lists, then get a dated quote from an OZEV-authorised installer.
- Gather written permission from your landlord, freeholder or property manager, naming you, the property and the person giving permission. You also need local-authority permission if you live in a listed building. Prepare a utility bill less than three months old showing your name and the installation address, a signed and dated tenancy agreement if renting, and your order form if the vehicle is on order.
- Follow the online application route in the official guidance and register for an account on the new platform. Complete and submit the application yourself with your own contact details; the installer must not do it for you.
- Wait until OZEV tells both you and your installer that your application is approved. Installing before this notification invalidates the grant offer.
- After installation, your installer claims the grant. OZEV emails you to check the claim and pays your installer if it approves it. Cooperate with any audit or site-visit request.
