BizEnergySaver

Independent Electricity System OperatorKanada

Instant discounts and arranged installation help industrial, commercial, institutional and multi-residential buildings in eligible Toronto and Ottawa areas upgrade lighting, pumps and fans.

Ez a lehetőség jelenleg angolul érhető el.

BizEnergySaver reduces the cost of replacing existing equipment that uses electricity. It supports LED lighting with sensors, variable frequency drives (VFDs) for pumps and fans, and carbon monoxide controls for parking garage exhaust fans. These drives are upgrades to pump and fan motors. The free on-site assessment identifies eligible upgrades, and qualified programme contractors arrange and install the measures you choose.

The discount is set by the equipment schedule and cannot exceed 100% of the measure's cost, including installation. You pay the remaining cost shown in the work order. For example, the schedule lists CAD 3,000 for adding a VFD to a 5-horsepower single pump with no existing VFD, operating 8,760 hours a year. This is a measure-specific amount, rather than a grant cap for the whole building.

Schedule costs exclude harmonized sales tax (HST). Additional wiring, a VFD bypass and some Technical Standards and Safety Authority costs can fall outside programme coverage. The assessment report sets out recommended upgrades, costs, discounts and your remaining payment before you decide whether to proceed.

Eligibility

  • Owners, operators and tenants of industrial, commercial, institutional and multi-family buildings may participate. You must be a non-residential electricity customer of Toronto Hydro, Hydro Ottawa or Hydro One and have authority to install the equipment, through ownership or the owner's permission.
  • The facility must connect to the Ontario electricity grid or a connected distribution system. In Toronto, all postal codes beginning with M qualify. In Ottawa, the first three postal-code characters must be K1A, K1B, K1C, K1E, K1G, K1H, K1J, K1K, K1L, K1M, K1N, K1P, K1R, K1S, K1T, K1V, K1W, K1X, K1Y, K1Z, K2A, K2B, K2C, K2E, K2G, K2H, K2J, K2K, K2L, K2M, K2P, K2R, K2S, K2T, K2V, K2W, K4A, K4B, K4M or K4P.
  • Each upgrade must appear in the eligible measure schedule and meet its existing-equipment and operating conditions. Lighting must include sensors, either within the fixture or installed at the same time. Eligible sensor upgrades apply where controls are not already installed; sensors must be commercial grade, and switches with a manual override “on” are excluded. Lighting products must be listed by DesignLights Consortium or ENERGY STAR. Replacing existing LEDs or exterior lighting is excluded.
  • For VFDs, the schedule distinguishes continuous-operation equipment from non-continuous operation. The latter requires at least 2,000 operating hours a year and operation during June–August. The garage carbon monoxide-control measure requires no existing CO control and fans operating 8,760 hours a year.
  • The same measures cannot receive other Ontario ratepayer- or taxpayer-funded incentives for electrical savings or installation, including other Save on Energy programmes, or manufacturer, wholesaler or supply-chain rebates.
  • Leave the installed equipment in place for its expected service life unless it fails, and do not move, tamper with, disable or damage it. You must cooperate with programme surveys, studies, audits and verification and provide reasonable access to the facility and relevant records.
  • The IESO owns the share of electricity-saving environmental credits corresponding to its funding percentage; you retain the remainder. Before transferring, trading or otherwise using your share, notify the IESO in writing with quantities and supporting calculations.
  • If your rental units fall under Ontario's Residential Tenancies Act, you cannot use these discounts or measures as the basis for an above-guideline rent increase.

The programme can refuse an installation because of unsuitable site conditions, safety, unmet eligibility or insufficient funds.
