Grant for testing energy-transition innovations with customers
A grant of up to SEK 3 million for Swedish small and medium-sized companies to test and develop an energy-transition innovation with a participating customer.

Use this grant for a defined project that moves a product, service or other solution closer to commercial use by testing and developing it with a customer. Customer work must form the main part of the project. The project must also include business-development work and preparation for commercial use. Fundable examples include work on a business plan, financing plan or strategy for intellectual property.
This is project funding, not a loan or an investment in your company: there are no scheduled repayments and the Agency does not become an owner. For test and development work, the grant can cover up to 45% of the costs accepted under the call rules. The part not covered by the grant must come from eligible co-financing, which can be provided by your company or the participating customer. Eligible business-development and innovation-support work can receive up to 100%, capped at SEK 500,000; the total grant remains capped at SEK 3 million per project.
A participating customer can join as a project party and receive grant support for its test and development work. The required co-financing can come from company or customer cash, new investment, income from ordinary operations or loans. Other state aid, unpaid work and expected sales of the innovation are not accepted as co-financing.
Eligibility
Your company must:
- be a Swedish small or medium-sized company; a newly formed company can apply;
- own the innovation or hold the right to use it;
- carry out the main development and verification activities with a participating customer;
- have an innovation that can improve energy efficiency, flexibility, access to fossil-free energy or energy-system resilience, with clear customer benefit and business potential; and
- be ready to move towards commercial use or a larger pilot or demonstration.
The formal readiness requirement is technology readiness level 4 to 7 at the project start. In practical terms, the lower boundary means you have a small-scale prototype confirmed in a laboratory for its intended system. The upper boundary means the solution may already be integrated into a prototype and demonstrated in its operating environment, but it must not yet have reached level 8, where it is fully developed and verified by an end user.
Routine changes to existing products, processes or services and ordinary operating costs are not eligible.

The spring 2026 round closed on 2 June 2026. The Agency lists another round for October 2026, but this timing is preliminary and exact dates have not yet been published.
Check the programme page or upcoming-calls list for the new call. When it opens, apply through the Swedish Energy Agency's Mina sidor service and follow that round's instructions.
For context, the spring round required an additional-questions form and a dated, signed letter of intent from at least one participating customer. Check the next call before relying on that document list. In the application, explain the innovation's energy impact, business potential and what makes it new or substantially improved.
