Social electric-car leasing

French StateFranciaországlegfeljebb 9,5 E EUR

Lease an electric car for up to €200 a month before insurance and extras, with subsidised upfront costs, if you live in France and meet income and work-travel conditions.

Ez a lehetőség jelenleg angolul érhető el.

Leasing social lets you rent a new electric car for at least three years without an initial contribution beyond the fixed monthly payments. The dealer or rental company advances the aid and deducts it from the first rental payment, reducing that payment to €0 before options and ancillary services. You pay for using the car, not for owning it: return it at the end, or pay the agreed purchase price if your contract includes an option to buy. You cannot exercise that option before three years.

The aid is 29% of the car’s purchase cost excluding options, capped at €6,500. The cap rises to €9,000 where both the car manufacturing site and battery production site are in the European Economic Area. A further €500 is available if the motor is also made in Europe, bringing the maximum to €9,500.

Monthly rent is capped at €200 including tax, but compulsory insurance, options and ancillary services cost extra. Maintenance is not included; adding it can take payments above €200. Participating professionals must offer at least one model at €140 a month or less, except overseas. The contract includes at least 15,000 km a year without extra mileage charges; exceeding its allowance and any repairs needed when you return the car can cost extra.

Eligibility

  • You must be an adult domiciled in France.
  • Your revenu fiscal de référence par part—the reference income used for tax purposes per household tax share—plus any income received abroad in the same year must be no more than €16,880. If your first rental payment is in 2026, use the 2024 income shown on your 2025 tax notice. Have that notice ready and use the official eligibility simulator to check the income test; it is not a salary or income-per-person limit.
  • Either the part of your home-to-work journey made exclusively in your personal vehicle must exceed 10 km, or you must drive more than 8,000 km a year in your personal vehicle for your professional activity.
  • You can receive this aid only once. Previous beneficiaries of the 2024 or 2025 social leasing aid cannot receive it. It cannot be combined with other aid under France’s energy savings certificate scheme (CEE), including the electric-car purchase incentive.
  • The car must meet all vehicle conditions when the first rental payment is made: a new, exclusively electric passenger car (category M1), with definitive French registration, a purchase cost no higher than €47,000 including tax and any battery purchase or rental cost but excluding options, and a mass in running order below 1,800 kg (field G on its registration document). Its environmental score, which reflects manufacturing CO₂ emissions, must be at least 60. Use the official eligible-vehicle list linked from Service Public to check models.
  • Delivery must take place within six months of ordering, otherwise the car becomes ineligible. You must keep it leased for the contracted period and must not sublet it.

Ending the lease early may leave you liable for the remaining rental payments, but delivery delays have a separate protection: if the car remains undelivered more than 14 days after the contractual delivery date, you can end the contract immediately without remaining rental payments or penalties. You do not have to wait six months.

After the first 14 calendar days from signing, you or your heirs can also terminate on evidence of death, disability qualifying under Article L. 341-3 of the French Social Security Code, job loss or force majeure. The Social Security invalidity test concerns a reduction of at least two-thirds in your capacity to work or earn after an illness or accident unrelated to work—not every disability. For force majeure, the circumstances must be unforeseeable, beyond your control and irreversible at least for the required period of keeping the vehicle. No remaining rent or penalties are due in these cases, although vehicle restoration costs may still apply.

Contact a participating rental company or car dealership. It checks your eligibility and prepares the file with supporting documents for your situation. It advances the aid, so you do not apply for a separate cash payment. The amount must appear on the rental contract or an accompanying certificate as “Aide à la location sociale d'une voiture particulière électrique”.
