Klimabonus solar panel and battery grants
Grants for solar panels that supply your own electricity, with optional battery storage, in residential buildings in Luxembourg.
Ez a lehetőség jelenleg angolul érhető el.
Klimabonus supports solar photovoltaic panels, which generate electricity, and batteries that store it. You can apply for panels alone, panels with a battery, or a battery added to an existing identifiable solar system. The standard route reimburses eligible investments after the work is completed and invoices are paid. It covers renovation, new construction and separate installations.
For panels below 15 kW peak capacity, the grant in euros is P × (1,155 − 1,155 ÷ 35 × P), where P is peak capacity in kW rounded to two decimal places. From 15 kW, the maximum is €10,000. For a battery below 9 kWh usable capacity, the grant is Q × (500 − 500 ÷ 18 × Q), where Q is usable capacity in kWh rounded to two decimal places. From 9 kWh, the maximum is €2,250.
Eligibility
- Individuals, private legal entities and public legal entities other than the State can apply for residential buildings in Luxembourg. Apply as the owner, or as the legal representative of a group to which you belong. If ownership changes, the former owner who made the investment can receive the aid if the new owner waives it in their favour.
- A legal entity carrying out economic activity receives the aid under EU de minimis rules, which limit the total of this category of public aid received by the business. Indicate the business for whose benefit aid is registered. If it is transferred to another recipient, supply formal signed or notarised proof of the transfer and identify that recipient.
- Panels must have at least 2 kW peak capacity. For the standard reimbursement route, they must be on the roof or façade, or incorporated into the building envelope. Operate them for self-consumption: use the generated electricity yourself and waive the legally or regulatorily guaranteed payment for electricity supplied to the grid. You may sell surplus electricity at market prices.
- Batteries must provide at least 2 kWh storage and connect to a solar system operating for self-consumption. In a building with several homes, the solar system must exceed 1.5 kW peak capacity per private unit. An additional battery for the same system qualifies only five years after acquisition of the last battery for which aid was granted; its invoice proves that date.
- Second-hand systems, repairs or replacements of parts that cannot operate independently, and installations already funded under the 2017 or 2022 scheme are excluded. Aid is paid once per installation. You cannot combine prefinancing and reimbursement applications for the same investment.

- For the standard route, invoices must be dated from 4 January 2026 to 31 December 2029. Invoices may extend to 31 December 2031 if the systems were ordered by 31 December 2029.[^c7]
- Apply within four years after 31 December of the invoice year and no later than 31 December 2031.[^c7]
For the standard reimbursement route, check with the municipality whether a building permit is required, then apply after completion through MyGuichet.lu using LuxTrust or an electronic identity card. Alternatively, send or deliver the appropriate DEPA-2026 form to the Single point of contact for housing assistance. The Environment Agency processes the aid.
Include bank account details, detailed paid invoices, the photovoltaic technical data sheet and additional documents required by the forms. Attach an itemised estimate if the invoice refers to it, and the dated solar order form and energy performance assessment where applicable. For a jointly owned or multi-unit property, provide the owner authorisations or meeting decision, and a list of flats with their energy reference areas excluding common areas.
A separate Ministry of the Economy prefinancing route currently lets an admitted installer deduct the subsidy from the final invoice and apply on your behalf. It is for a new solar system, with or without a battery; a battery added to an existing system uses reimbursement. The prefinancing route also allows panels mounted on a built structure, such as a carport or garden shed. Choose a registered installer and sign the prefinancing mandate confirming the order date. The final invoice must state the solar capacity and any battery capacity, and separately deduct the subsidy and all deposits. The beneficiary must own or have property rights in a building with at least one home. Businesses whose activities require a business permit and leased systems are excluded. Total deposits must meet both limits: no more than 30% of the VAT-inclusive amount projected in the deposit request, and no more than 30% of the total final invoice price. Aid cannot exceed the invoiced VAT-inclusive acquisition and installation cost.
Under that route, an extension or additional solar system requires at least two years between the first grid feed-in of the initial and additional systems. The installer must notify the network operator that work is complete; network acceptance remains required, and aid must be repaid if acceptance is refused. Orders must be signed from 1 October 2024 through 31 December 2029 and applications filed by 31 December 2031. This route joins Klimabonus 2026 from 1 January 2027; consult its separate official instructions before choosing it.
