Home Energy Saver loan
Zero-interest loans of up to AUD 15,000 help homeowners and landlords install approved energy upgrades in New South Wales homes, with repayment over up to 10 years.
Ez a lehetőség jelenleg angolul érhető el.
The NSW Government funds the loans; Brighte and Plenti assess applications, pay the approved supplier and collect your repayments. You must repay the amount borrowed. Once you confirm that installation is complete and working, your lender pays the supplier and starts collecting repayments under your loan agreement.
The programme covers rooftop solar, home batteries, heat-pump or electrically boosted solar water heating, reverse-cycle heating and cooling, ceiling insulation, double glazing, permanent induction cooktops replacing gas or electric cooktops, Level 2 electric-vehicle chargers, draught proofing, ceiling fans, qualifying switchboard upgrades and an optional NatHERS home energy assessment. This assessment measures your home's energy performance and identifies potential improvements. Your approved supplier must ensure the product and installation meet the programme's technical standards.
The upgrades you can buy depend on the lender's approved range. Brighte currently lists solar, batteries, EV chargers, heat-pump water heating, reverse-cycle air conditioning, double-glazed windows and induction cooktops; it marks insulation, draught proofing and ceiling fans as coming soon. Plenti currently offers solar, batteries, inverters and switchboard upgrades. An inverter or switchboard must still meet the programme rules for the supported installation.
You can bundle several eligible upgrades into one loan of up to AUD 15,000 and pay any excess directly to the installer. Brighte's loan starts at AUD 2,000 and has no establishment, account-keeping or introducer fee. Plenti lists no upfront or monthly fees. Late repayments can incur fees: Brighte may charge AUD 4.99 per missed payment, capped at AUD 49.90 a year; Plenti may charge AUD 2 weekly for overdue repayments, capped at AUD 120 in each 12-month period starting on settlement. Brighte permits early repayment without an early repayment fee.
Only the eligible upgrade and its installation are covered; other work to prepare the property must be quoted separately and paid outside the loan. Roof structural work needed for an insulation upgrade may be included with supplier or subcontractor approval, but extensions and other upgrades are excluded. Relevant existing federal or NSW energy incentives must be applied first to reduce the cost.
Eligibility
- You must own the NSW property as an owner-occupier or landlord and be an Australian citizen or permanent resident. Owner-occupiers must be NSW residents; the lenders also accept qualifying landlords of NSW properties. Combined taxable household income must not exceed AUD 210,000 a year.
- The lender assesses whether you can repay the loan and must approve the credit application. Renters cannot borrow through this offer.
- Social or community housing and properties used for short-stay accommodation are excluded. A property is also excluded if it has already received up to AUD 15,000 of upgrades using a Home Energy Saver loan with your household.
- For a strata property, obtain owners corporation consent. Landlords must confirm their tenant consents to the upgrade.
- A battery must have more than 5 kWh of usable capacity, be installed at a site with solar panels, and support internet connection and control for a virtual power plant: a service that coordinates batteries' charging and discharge. An inverter replacement or update may be needed to meet this requirement.
- A switchboard upgrade must be necessary to safely complete another supported upgrade. Your supplier must arrange the applicable electrical safety checks and qualified installation under the programme standards.

Choose Brighte or Plenti through the official programme page, then contact a supplier approved by that lender for an itemised quote showing your contribution, warranties and exclusions. The supplier sends a referral link with the upgrade and installation cost for your loan application. Provide evidence of property ownership and household income, and complete the lender's assessment of your ability to repay.
If approved, accept the lender's loan agreement and complete the installation agreement with your supplier before installation. A supplier may require a deposit; its amount varies. Arrange for a responsible adult aged 18 or over to be home during installation, then confirm the completed upgrade works so the lender can pay the supplier and begin repayments.
The separate Home Energy Saver discount is still coming soon. If you want to use a future discount and a loan for the same purchase, wait for discount applications to open and apply for the discount first. Taking the loan first prevents you from applying that discount to the same purchase under the current instructions.
