Low Carbon Grant
Grants cover up to half the cost of energy-saving improvements for small and medium-sized businesses with commercial premises in Sheffield.
Ez a lehetőség jelenleg angolul érhető el.
The Local Growth Fund Low Carbon Project helps Sheffield businesses reduce energy use and carbon emissions. A free energy survey identifies improvements, their costs, carbon savings and how long it takes to recover the investment through savings (its return-on-investment period). Depending on the survey, you may qualify for a grant towards the investment.
The grant covers up to 50% of total project costs, with your business funding the remainder. Grants range from £1,500 to £30,000. For a grant above £12,500, the project must demonstrate substantial energy savings; a panel reviews all applications for value before agreeing the grant amount.
Eligibility
- Your business must have commercial premises in Sheffield. Home-based businesses cannot take part. The terms here apply to Sheffield; businesses elsewhere in South Yorkshire should contact their own local authority.
- You must have 250 employees or fewer and turnover below £54 million.
- Your business must not have received more than £315,000 of subsidy classified as Minimal Financial Assistance over the last three years.
- Provide 12 months of energy bills to establish your starting energy use. If you have occupied the premises for less than 12 months, provide bills for however many months you have been there.
- The investment must be a capital project: improvements identified by the energy survey that deliver a net reduction in carbon emissions. The investment must take more than one year to pay back through savings, and it must be set to complete by December 2026.
- If you rent, you need your landlord’s permission for changes to the building itself.
Working capital, operating costs and electric vehicles are excluded. Businesses whose main activities, products or services conflict with Council policies and strategies are ineligible, including gambling and vaping businesses and those involving single-use vape products.

Email lowcarbonproject@sheffield.gov.uk to enquire with Business Sheffield. An advisor helps you understand energy use, arranges an Energy Audit or a tailored Energy Recommendations Report, and helps you plan the improvements and understand whether you could qualify for a grant.
Enquire promptly: the October 2026 update says the budget is almost fully committed. Projects are assessed first come, first served, and funding is not guaranteed. The survey does not automatically qualify your business for a grant; the additional grant criteria and panel review apply.
