Building insulation grant
Grants for private owners insulating existing roofs, walls and floors in Canton Thurgau.
Ez a lehetőség jelenleg angolul érhető el.
Insulate a building whose construction permit dates from before 2000. The base grant pays CHF 40 per square metre of insulation for roofs and walls or floors facing outside or the ground. Window areas are deducted from facade areas. The award must reach CHF 1,000 and cannot exceed 50% of the investment in the funded insulation measures. Use invoiced costs including VAT; your own unpaid work does not count. This entry covers the base insulation grant.
Eligibility
- The project must be in Canton Thurgau. Eligible areas were lawfully heated before renovation. Exterior surfaces of unheated rooms directly above or below previously heated floors also qualify. New additions and extra storeys do not qualify.
- After renovation, the U-value, which measures heat passing through the roof, wall or floor, must be no higher than 0.20 W/m²K. Walls and floors more than two metres underground may reach 0.25 W/m²K. Ground reduction factors cannot be counted. The improvement must be at least 0.07 W/m²K. Protected buildings listed as nationally or regionally significant in federal, cantonal or municipal inventories, and building elements formally protected by an authority, may receive relaxed U-value requirements if the ordinary values are demonstrably unachievable.
- For a grant of CHF 10,000 or more, attach a GEAK Plus building energy certificate and advisory report. A qualified GEAK expert must prepare it, showing the existing condition and a complete renovation option. This applies to single-family and apartment buildings, hotels, offices/administration, schools, shops and restaurants. Other uses require a building analysis with recommended actions under the Swiss Federal Office of Energy specification; energy analyses such as those under large-consumer target agreements are also accepted.
- A further insulation application is allowed only after the previous one is paid or withdrawn. You cannot combine this grant with a Minergie building-modernisation contribution.
- Measures at companies committed to emissions reductions under the CO₂ Act, for example in return for exemption from the CO₂ levy, or participating in emissions trading are excluded. Measures supported by private climate organisations, or implemented under agreements with the federal government to meet its statutory emissions-reduction target under Article 4(3) of the CO₂ Act, are also excluded. Federal and cantonal projects are excluded; this private-owner route does not cover bodies with special public-affiliate rules.
- Landlords must pass the reduction in property costs resulting from the subsidised investment on to tenants.

- Submit before insulation works begin; funding depends on the cantonal budget.
Apply completely online through the Canton Thurgau energy funding portal before insulation work starts. Choose “Gesuch erstellen” (create an application), select Canton Thurgau and the funding category, then complete the project details and required attachments. The owner or authorised representative submits the completed request using their personal password. The owner or authorised representative remains responsible for timely submission; delegating to the contractor is insufficient. Scaffolding, demolition and material delivery alone do not count as the start of the energy measures. Work after submission but before approval is at your own risk.
After completing the work, submit the project completion for checking and payment. Claim the grant within two years of its commitment date, unless an extended deadline has been granted. Necessary permits must exist by payment. Allow access to project documents and possible site inspections, and declare the payment correctly for tax purposes. Incorrect information or breached conditions may lead to cancellation or repayment with interest.
Funding is limited to the approved cantonal budget and is not a legal entitlement. Exhaustion may delay payment until the next year; the canton may introduce waiting lists for commitments or payments.
