Climate investment loan

BKS BankAustria

Borrowing for businesses investing in solar power, energy-saving indoor lighting or thermal building renovation.

Questa opportunità è attualmente disponibile in inglese.

BKS Bank finances green business investments, including photovoltaic and solar installations, conversion to indoor LED lighting and thermal renovation of buildings.

The bank provides an investment loan that you draw once and repay in agreed instalments. It agrees the amount and term with your business, adapting the financing to the investment and its useful life.

Your agreed offer determines your borrowing terms. Unless agreed otherwise, the bank’s published business charges apply. Businesses also pay necessary costs arising from the banking relationship, including arranging and managing security for repayment, such as assets the bank can sell to recover what you owe.

The business terms allow changes to recurring charges, including interest, according to the circumstances. If an agreed benchmark—the reference rate used to calculate your interest—ceases to reflect market conditions, the bank can replace it and notify you. Objecting within the notified period requires repayment of the affected outstanding borrowing, interest calculated with the original benchmark and other charges within 30 days; the bank also stops paying out undrawn amounts covered by that notice. Once the market disruption ends, the original benchmark applies again. Further service or charge changes require consent; for notified changes, silence for two months counts as consent.

Eligibility

Your business investment must pass BKS Bank’s credit assessment. Green-project classification is checked separately within that process.

The bank’s climate policy restricts lending to businesses with substantial coal, oil, gas or nuclear activities:

  • Businesses earning more than 5% of revenue from coal activities are normally excluded. An exception covers businesses publicly committed to reducing emissions from their core operations in line with the Paris Agreement and, where the bank can evaluate this, not investing in expansion of coal infrastructure. If expansion cannot be evaluated, the public commitment suffices. Loans earmarked for a specific investment that do not expand coal infrastructure remain permitted.
  • Businesses earning more than 30% of revenue from oil activities, or more than 30% from gas activities, are normally excluded. The same public commitment to reducing emissions from core operations and, where evaluable, non-expansion test applies separately to those sectors; if expansion cannot be evaluated, the commitment suffices.
  • New loans to businesses earning more than 5% of revenue from activities connected to generating energy through nuclear fission (splitting atoms) are excluded. Exceptions cover decommissioning closed nuclear facilities, safety and maintenance of existing facilities, final waste repositories and activities meeting the EU taxonomy, the classification of environmentally sustainable economic activities.

If your financial position deteriorates or existing security loses value, the bank can require new or additional security within a reasonable period. This can apply even when security was not required at the outset.

The bank can terminate the loan immediately for an important reason, such as financial deterioration threatening repayment, materially false information that would have led the bank to decline the contract had it known the facts, or failure to provide required security that threatens repayment. Amounts owed become immediately due when the banking relationship or the affected individual contract ends.
