Duct insulation rebate for electric heating

TakeChargeCanadafino a 500 CAD

Homeowners in Newfoundland and Labrador can receive an electricity-bill credit covering 50% of pre-tax duct insulation costs, up to CAD 500, for electric-heating ducts in unheated spaces.

Questa opportunità è attualmente disponibile in inglese.

Insulate exposed ducts carrying heat from your main electric heating system through an unheated basement, crawl space or attic. TakeCharge reimburses insulation materials through a credit on your electricity bill. Labour, other materials and tax are excluded.

Use duct wrap or duct sleeves with a verifiable R-value and Canadian Standards Association (CSA) approval. R-value measures resistance to heat passing through insulation; the installed insulation must be between R-6 and R-8. You can add insulation to what is already there, but replacing existing insulation is excluded.

Eligibility

  • The home must be in Newfoundland and Labrador, on a permanent foundation and intended as a primary residence. You must own it and have an active electricity account. Rental-property owners and contractors can participate if the eligibility requirements are met, but only the homeowner can receive the rebate.
  • Your main heating source must be an electric furnace or a central-ducted heat pump. If you also use another heating source, annual electricity use must be at least 15,000 kWh.
  • Insulate only exposed ducts for the main heating system that pass through unheated areas. Heat recovery ventilator (HRV) ducts and other exhaust ducts are excluded. Install insulation on the outside of the ducts.
  • Insulation must be intended for ductwork, CSA-approved and have a verifiable installed R-value between R-6 and R-8. It must have been purchased on or after September 26, 2022. You may top up existing insulation to reach the required R-value; replacing it does not qualify.
