Get up to 70% of the cost of small greening projects at residential properties in the Schalke-Nord and Bismarck-West renewal area reimbursed.

Plant climbing greenery or a native tree, collect rainwater for watering, or add a small green roof. Plants improve the local microclimate, and green roofs and façades protect against heat.
The grant reimburses 70% of evidenced costs, within your reserved amount and these limits: a planted container with trellis €200; a container plant with a wall-mounted trellis €600; a pavement planting bed with trellis €800; wall planting pockets €100 each for up to six; a rain barrel €100; a native tree €300; and a small green roof €100/m² for up to 10 m². If you do the work yourself, submit material receipts; if a specialist firm does it, submit its invoices. The neighbourhood office (Stadtteilbüro) checks the documents before paying the grant into your account.
Eligibility
You can apply as a private individual who owns a residential building or holds an Erbbaurecht, a building right on land owned by someone else, or as a community of property owners. The property must be within the Schalke-Nord and Bismarck-West urban-renewal area in Gelsenkirchen.
Use mainly native plants and woody plants, and ecological materials. Comply with building law, neighbour law and local bylaws. The signed form requires consent to data storage and the use of your project photos in Stadtteilbüro publications.

- Fresh applications are invited through Stadtteilbüro Schalke-Nord.
- Complete the work within three months of confirmation, and complete all work and submit all invoices and receipts during 2026.
Complete and sign the reservation form in the 2026 flyer, then email a photo of it to stadtteilbuero.schalke-nord@gelsenkirchen.de. Stadtteilbüro Schalke-Nord checks your request and sends confirmation within one week. Wait for confirmation before commissioning a firm or carrying out the work.
You have three months after confirmation to carry out the project, but the current last call also requires all work to be completed and all invoices and receipts submitted during 2026. After completion, send photos and the material receipts or contractor invoices to the Stadtteilbüro for payment assessment.
