Precision farming planning payment
An annual payment for farmers in Sweden to plan crop nutrition, test soil and slurry, and protect drainage inlets from pesticide runoff.
Questa opportunità è attualmente disponibile in inglese.
The payment supports nutrient planning on arable land. You prepare a crop and fertiliser plan, a nutrient balance showing nutrients entering and leaving the farm, and soil maps based on samples. Slurry users also analyse its nutrient content. These practices help match fertiliser to crop needs; the climate benefit identified in the official assessment mainly comes from better manure dosage and reduced mineral fertiliser use.
For 2026, the published payment range is €20–41 per hectare. The final rate is set in autumn according to the number of applicants. Payment is in Swedish kronor using the European Central Bank exchange rate on the last banking day before 1 October. This is a payment for meeting the annual practice requirements. It does not reimburse machinery purchases.
Eligibility
The following are the 2026 conditions. You must farm the land yourself, through ownership, a lease or a right-of-use agreement. Fallow land and land with permanent crops do not qualify. Each claimed parcel must be at least 0.1 hectares, and you must meet the agricultural land management requirement.
Normally, by 31 October it must be clearly visible across the whole parcel that you have grown crops, grazed animals, topped or mown vegetation, or cultivated the soil. Keep arable land from becoming waterlogged. Supported buffer zones on arable land have different maintenance rules: they must mainly contain grass, without shrubs or tall growth suppressing it. They do not need harvesting, topping or grazing, but their vegetation must be maintained so it continues to limit pesticide and nutrient runoff. Land receiving the flowering arable land and field-margin payment does not need topping or mowing for this maintenance requirement; its own management conditions apply. The fallow-land and permanent-crop exceptions in the general guidance do not make those excluded land types eligible for this planning payment. See the official land-maintenance guidance, under “Du ska sköta din jordbruksmark”.
You normally need at least 4 hectares of agricultural land in your whole SAM application by 9 April. If you reached 4 hectares later, payment was reduced by 1% per working day until 4 May; below 4 hectares after that date means no payment. An exception applies if you receive cattle support and your combined direct payments reach at least €100. The counted payments are basic income support, cattle support, young farmer support, precision farming planning, carbon storage and reduced nitrogen leaching, organic production, ley cultivation, and flowering arable land and field margins.
You must be an active farmer. You qualify automatically with more than 36 hectares in your SAM application, more than 50 livestock units, no more than €5,000 in direct payments the previous year, or no previous-year direct payments and expected payments of no more than €5,000 this year. Livestock units combine different animal categories using the official conversion table. If none applies, the county administrative board requests additional evidence; farm costs or income can demonstrate agricultural activity.
- Have a 2026 crop and fertiliser plan for all your arable parcels, available for inspection by 9 April. Identify each parcel as in SAM, its area, preceding and planned crop, phosphorus and potassium needs, nitrogen need based on expected yield and the stated soil/previous-crop/manure effects, planned or already applied fertiliser, and its available nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium content.
- Have a nutrient balance for a 12-month period in 2023, 2024 or 2025, available by 9 April. It must account for nutrients entering and leaving crop and livestock production per productive arable hectare, including nitrogen fixation. Separate farms without joint operations need separate balances. Farms started, or production units acquired, in 2025 or 2026 are exempt for the new farm or unit in 2026. If outdoor vegetables or berries occupy more than half your farm’s arable land, you can instead use parcel-level balances.
- Have soil mapping no older than 10 years, completed and available by 9 April 2026, covering claimed parcels. Sample at least once per hectare; a mapped parcel smaller than 3 hectares needs only one sample. Mark sample positions on a digital or paper map and analyse pH, readily soluble phosphorus (P-AL) and potassium (K-AL). Parcels committed to waterside or adapted buffer zones need not be mapped.
- If you spread slurry from your own or another farm, have at least one analysis each year for ammonium nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. In 2026 it must be available by 15 June and dated no earlier than 15 June 2025.
- Surround every above-ground drainage well with a surface-water inlet on claimed parcels with a mainly grass-covered strip at least 2 metres wide. Measure this outside any stone or gravel surround. Establish it by sowing the main crop and leave it intact through 31 December; reseeding with the next autumn-sown main crop is allowed. Vegetation must be adequate for local conditions and weather. Wells without surface-water inlet holes are exempt. You cannot combine this payment with an adapted buffer-zone commitment on the same parcel if such a well stands on that buffer zone.
Follow the basic rules for animal and land management and the social rules on working conditions where you are an employer. Breaches can reduce payment. An EU budget adjustment can also reduce the portion of combined relevant direct payments above €2,000.

The 2026 application period has ended. Applications used SAM Internet: 9 April was the ordinary deadline and late applications lost 1% per working day; applications after 4 May receive no 2026 payment. First-time applicants obtain a customer number from their county administrative board.
For an existing 2026 claim, keep the SAM information accurate. Parcel boundaries and crops can be changed until 31 October provided the claimed area does not increase; you can also withdraw all or part of the claim. The official page links to SAM Internet and the instructions for changes.
