Rainwater tank grant

Municipality of BerlareFiandre250 EUR

A €250 grant helps owners, users and tenants of qualifying existing homes in Berlare install a tank to reuse rainwater.

Questa opportunità è attualmente disponibile in inglese.

The tank collects roof water for household use, such as flushing a toilet or running a washing machine. The municipality pays €250 for an eligible rainwater installation, subject to its approved annual budget. This grant can be combined with the grant for separating wastewater and rainwater drainage.

Eligibility

  • This entry covers homes in Berlare with a building permit obtained before 7 September 1999. The installation must have been built after 31 December 2008. Owners, users and tenants can apply; tenants need the owner’s permission. The municipal grant is awarded only once for a building.
  • New construction is excluded, as are renovation or extension projects with drainage works for which an environmental permit was issued.
  • The installation must comply with the code of good practice for rainwater tanks and infiltration facilities and, secondly, the technical provisions of the 2004 regional rainwater regulation.
  • Connect the whole roof to the tank. A partial connection requires a thorough justification. Use the captured water through a pump connected to at least one toilet or washing machine; a pump is unnecessary if gravity supplies the draw-off points.
  • Size the tank to the horizontal roof area, measured as the roof’s projection onto a horizontal plane: 50–60 m² needs at least 3,000 litres; 61–80 m², 4,000; 81–100 m², 5,000; 101–120 m², 6,000; 121–140 m², 7,000; 141–160 m², 8,000; 161–180 m², 9,000; 181–200 m², 10,000. Above 200 m² the rule is 5,000 litres per 100 m². The minimum tank volume is 3,000 litres.
  • For the separate-circuit installation covered here, keep drinking-water and rainwater pipework separate, with no direct connection between them. A prior water-circuit inspection must certify effective separation.
  • Preferably connect the overflow to infiltration on your own land. It may also go to a public infiltration facility, a watercourse, ditch or other surface water. If these routes are unavailable or impracticable, it may go to the public rainwater sewer. Only if no public rainwater sewer exists may it go to the combined sewer; keep rainwater and wastewater separate up to that discharge point.

Submit an installation plan showing the tank, overflow and connections, copies of invoices and the conformity certificate from De Watergroep. Tenants must provide the owner’s permission. Before payment, the municipality’s authorised inspector checks compliance; no grant is paid if the conditions are unmet, but the owner may make alterations to qualify.
