Energy transition grants
Building owners can receive a grant for temporary heating when their boiler needs immediate replacement before a planned district-heating connection.
Questa opportunità è attualmente disponibile in inglese.
The municipal energy-transition programme supports a temporary source of heat while you wait for a planned district-heating network to reach your building. District heating supplies heat to buildings through a shared network.
For this temporary heating, the grant is (CHF 450 + CHF 3 per kW of thermal heating capacity) × the number of years until connection. The years counted cannot exceed the maximum waiting time in the City's energy plan. Payment is capped at both CHF 6,000 and 80% of the actual cost of the service.
You cannot combine this grant with the City's fossil-fuel heating divestment subsidy. There is no entitlement to funding, and the City may refuse a further grant if you have already received support for another property.
Eligibility
- You must own a building in the city of Fribourg, need to replace its boiler immediately, and be in an area where the municipal energy plan provides for district heating.
- Installations financed through an energy-service contract (the rules call this “contracting”) and installations required by law are excluded.
- Projects or buildings predominantly financed, directly or indirectly, by public funds are excluded. Buildings owned by public-law corporations, public-law institutions with legal personality, the canton, municipalities, municipal associations or civic corporations are also excluded.
- Companies or production sites subject to an emissions-reduction commitment under CO₂ or energy legislation, or participating in an emissions trading system, are excluded.
- Work must have the necessary official authorisation. As a rule, properties that failed the energy standards applicable when their building or energy permit was issued are excluded.
- Work must comply with legal requirements and proper professional standards. Report project changes to the municipal authority immediately; significant changes may lead to a reduced or refused grant. The authority may inspect supported works and installations at any time.

- Complete applications are considered in arrival order, within available funds. Obtain approval or written agreement before work or equipment delivery.
Apply through the energy-grants portal, which specifies the information and documents to submit. The Ville de Fribourg considers complete applications in arrival order, within the available budget.
Obtain the grant decision or written agreement before starting work or acquiring the supported equipment. Delivery to the work site counts as acquisition. The conditions in force when the application is received govern the decision.
After completing the work, request payment through the same portal and submit the required documents. You have two years from the award decision to complete the work and provide all requested documents; otherwise the grant will not be paid. Payment follows a compliance check and goes only to the owner or a representative with valid authorisation.
